THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, 2012.Morris-Turnberry proceeds with questionnaireAt the Sept. 18 meeting, Morris- Turnberry councillors voted to mail a public comment survey seeking the opinions of residents about fire service. Councillors had been considering sending the survey since they held a public meeting in May about a proposal to start their own Morris- Turnberry fire service but held off pending further negotiations over the service currently provided by North Huron. Council had met with North Huron councillors and officials from the Ontario Fire Marshal’s office Sept. 6 to discuss the possibility of a joint fire service. “It wasn’t quite the meeting I thought it was going to be,” said Mayor Paul Gowing of that meeting. “It kind of got off on a sidetrack.”Deputy-Mayor JasonBreckenridge made the motion to send out the survey. “I’ve had people ask me what we were doing and I can’t see why we continue to delay it,” said Breckenridge, expressing his dissatisfaction with ongoing discussions with North Huron. “Two or three times they’ve mentioned an operating budget but we’ve still never seen it,” he said. “North Huron seems to be playing dodge-ball,” agreed Councillor John Smuck. “None of our issues were dealt with.” Smuck had earlier suggested a fact sheet on fire service costs should be included in the mailing so that people have information to express their opinion. Councillor Dave Black despaired of trying to negotiate with North Huron. “We could have meetings once amonth, once a week, once a day and it won’t get anywhere,” he said. “We’re not one step closer [after recent meetings].” Councillor Jamie McCallumwarned that the questionnaire isunlikely to give council more ammunition in its struggle to negotiate with North Huron. “The resounding response I’ve had [to starting a Morris-Turnberry fireservice] has been no. I think if wesend this out there will a flood of papers saying ‘no’.” Despite doubts, councillors voted to send out the questionnaire. Continued from page 1 at the school went only as high as $110,000 (the final bid was made by the eventual buyer). Both Steve Howe, the Communications Manager of the Avon Maitland board, and a representative of Gardiner Auctions, who conducted the sale, said that the buyer wanted to remain unnamed. “There is an offer that has been accepted, but I can’t say who the buyer was,” Howe said. “They are offering to pay $210,000 and, at this point, until they actually sign the paperwork and reached a final deal, they will remain anonymous.” The Blyth Public School site consists of a 19,040 square foot building on a 3.51-acre property. Zurich Public School was bought by a developer hoping to turn it into retirement housing in the small village near Lake Huron. • Renovations • New Homes • Sales & Installation of Windows & Doors Call Ken 519-887-9857 Brussels, ON519-526-7634 ~ Dave Werkema ADDITIONS • RENOVATIONS • GENERAL REPAIRS NEW HOMES C&P PORTABLE TOILETS Teeswater 1-800-834-4414 Ph: 519-392-8474 Fax: 519-392-6168 * Regular Units * Deluxe Units - sink / flush * Handwash Stations * Wedding / Special Event Units * Wheelchair/Infant Care Units * Comfort Station Trailer C&P - for people who are out and “going”! Downstairs, there’s space for a den, three-piece bath and rec room, space that one day might serve as an in-law suite or studio. Upstairs, the great room, dining area and kitchen flow into one another. The kitchen is adjacent to the dining area, so serving meals is a matter of just a few steps. The U-shaped counter configuration promises efficiency, while the raised eating bar provides a pleasant spot for snacks and casual meals. A pantry offers extra storage. The great room’s fireplace, flanked by built-in entertainment units, will make this a favourite gathering place for family and guests on cooler days and evenings. French doors provide access to a sundeck that overlooks the front garden, perfect for al fresco dining and warm-weather relaxation. The master suite boasts a spacious walk-in closet, as well as an ensuite with a shower. The second and third bedrooms share a bathroom with a tub and a linen cupboard. At the back of the home is a small covered porch that overlooks the back garden. The laundry room is downstairs, along with a den that overlooks a small veranda. The den would make an ideal home office, since business visitors would not have to intrude in the rest of the house. A coat closet is positioned at the back of the foyer. A double garage completes the ground-floor plan. Exterior finishes include decorative shingles and bracing in the front gable, as well as board-and-batten siding and painted trim. This home measures 38 feet wide and 48 feet deep, for a total of 1,245 square feet. Plans for design 2-3-726 are available for $567 (set of 5), $636 (set of 8) and $675 for a super set of 10.
