Your good things are all yet to come!
(J.C. Ryle)
“Let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and
let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus,
the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the
cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God!”
Hebrews 12:1-2
We must run with perseverance--or we shall never obtain. There may be many things we
cannot understand, much that the flesh could perhaps wish otherwise--but let us endure
unto the end, and all shall be made clear, and God’s arrangements shall be proved best.
Think not to have your reward on earth--do not draw back, because your good things
are all yet to come.
Today is the cross--but tomorrow is the crown. Today is the labour--but tomorrow are
the wages. Today is the sowing--but tomorrow is the harvest. Today is the battle--but
tomorrow is the rest. Today is the weeping--but tomorrow is the joy.
And what is today, when compared to tomorrow? Today is but seventy years--but
tomorrow is eternity!

Hearn attends UCC councilUshering worshippers at BlythUnited Church on Sunday, Sept. 16were Nancy Hakkers, AndrewWharton, Laurie Sparling and Rob
Mason. Floyd Herman was music
director and Fred Hakkers ran the
power point.
Rev. Gary Clark welcomed
everyone to worship and drew
everyone’s attention to the
announcements in the bulletin and
scrolling on the power point, with
special mention that the UCW ladies
are starting to make meat pies for the
fall. Call Joann MacDonald at 519-
523-9274 to order.
The call to worship, “Come All
You People” was sung and also
another song, “This is the Day” was
sung for the first time. The prayer of
approach was repeated responsively
followed by the singing of The
Lord’s Prayer. The offering was
received followed by the offertory
hymn, “What Can I Do?” and theoffertory prayer. The children were asked to cometo the front for their story time. Rev.
Clark asked the children who they
were and everyone said their name.
He asked them again who they were
and some said they were hockey
players, some a happy person. Rev.
Clark told them they are all part of
the Blyth United Church Sunday
School and part of the church family.
The children went downstairs for
their time of fellowship. The
scripture reading was from Exodus
3: 13-20. The choir sang the hymn,
“All Who Are Thirsty” with the
congregation joining in singing the
chorus. The choir sang a version of
the song, “This Little Light of
Mine.”
Rachel Hearn was asked to give
her thoughts of General Council.
Rachel was a youth delegate
representing Huron-Perth
Presbytery at the 41st General
Council of the United Church of
Canada this past August in Ottawa.Rev. Clark’s message to the adultswas “Who Am I?” Today we look tothe young people of our church to
carry on with the church. We are
troubled when other people tell us
who we are. Most of the time they
tell us the negative side of us. We
should tell them who we are and be
a positive person. God tells us in the
scripture this morning that the
Israelites were meant to be a free
people and God would see to that.
We are a people who trust in God.
God will hold our hands and
only we can give up who we really
are.
The next hymn was “Jesus Loves
Me” followed by the Prayers for the
People and the silent prayer. The last
hymn was “The Church’s One
Foundation” followed by the
commissioning and the benediction
and the singing of the response.
Everyone was invited for pizza
with the Sunday school to celebrate
the beginning of a new year.

Blyth CRC celebrates 50 years
The Blyth Christian Reformed
Church celebrated 50 years of
history over the weekend and the
event went just as expected
according to organizer Murray
Siertsema.
“It went fine,” he said.
“Everything went as planned. We
had all our events go well and had a
community breakfast.”
To mark the special occasion, the
church, which has switched
locations since its inception,
welcomed back its very first pastor,
Reverend R.J. Sikkema from
Vineland to officiate over the
ceremony. Sikkema acted as
reverend of the church from 1962 to
1966.
The church started as an off-shoot
of the Clinton Christian Reformed
Church in 1962 and originally
gathered in the town hall in Blyth
before they eventually rented the
Presbyterian Church and later
bought it.
The Clinton branch of the church
was becoming too big and, with all
the youth programming the church
puts on, Siertsema said it made more
sense for people close to Blyth to
travel there to have them participate
in the church’s services.
Siertsema said that the church
started then with 32 families and has
held their own since then, but that
their church is facing a drain of
younger families as they leave for
bigger centres.
“The young people are leaving,
there just isn’t enough to keep them
here I guess,” he said. “But we’re
still holding our own somehow.”
He said that Sikkema’s lesson for
Sunday’s service has a lot to do with
why the church is continuing to
succeed.
“As I said, we’re holding our own
and we can’t really say it’s because
of anything big we’re doing, we’re
just living by the word,” he said.
“That’s what Sikkema’s lesson was
about on Sunday; holding to the
church’s word and holding to God’s
word. We’re being faithful and we’re
being successful because of that.”
The Blyth Christian Reformed
Church is on Queen Street in Blyth
and holds services at 10 a.m. and
7:30 p.m. on Sundays. The last
Sunday night of each month marks a
co-operative service with the
Clinton and Vanastra churches and
the location varies.
