All The Best and Much Success
For 66 years Oldfield Hardware has been a business on Brussels’ main
street. On May 2012 we sold the business to Mike Dauphin. Like many
things in life nothing ever stays the same. It was time for a change. We
have moved on to a new chapter in our lives. We will now have more
time to spend with our kids and our little baby Max. We have seen the
changes being done at the store and it is amazing with the new signs
and colours. It looks great inside and out. We are very happy to see
what they have done. We would like to thank all of our customers who
supported us all the years we were in business. To Mike, Michelle,
Sarah and Andy we would like to wish you all the best and much
success in your new venture. We know you will do well.

Abi’s Awesome Angels
Five local women raised more than $10,000 for the Shopper’s Drug Mart Walk to End
Women’s Cancer. Despite rain, the five soldiered on during the 60-kilometre walk on Sept. 8
and 9. Shown are the members of the team, from left, Erica Koch, Sherri Oliver, Abi Corbett,
Laurie Chapman and Lyn Jutzi. Corbett, a cancer survivor, gave a huge thanks to everyone
who helped out and sponsored the team. (Photo submitted)

Report on HE council requested
Huron East Councillor Nathan
Marshall has asked for a report into
the composition of Huron East
Council.
Marshall asked Chief
Administrative Officer Brad Knight
to prepare a report for council on its
composition to be presented at the
next council meeting. Marshall did
not specify what he exactly he was
looking for in the report or what
changes he hoped to see in council’s
composition.
Marshall made his request public
at the Sept. 4 council meeting, but
Knight said Marshall had informally
requested a report from Knight a
week before the meeting.

Council’s next September meeting
was scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 18,
the night of the Brussels Fall Fair.
However, the meeting date has now
been changed to Sept. 25.
Last year council kept the meeting
in conjunction with the Brussels Fall
Fair, holding it upstairs at the
Brussels, Morris and Grey
Community Centre in hopes that
members of the public would take
part in the meeting.

Councillor Larry McGrath said he
wanted to see the flower-watering
policy updated in Seaforth. He said
that the $1,000 spent per year to
water flowers in the town is too
much and he would like to
see a student hired to take on the
job.
He also said he would like to see
the flowers watered less throughout
the summer.
“I’m not about killing flowers,” he
said, “I’m just trying to save a dollar
somewhere.”
Councillors told McGrath that the
history behind the flowers are that
they were donated and planted by
the Seaforth Horticultural Society
and that they should be taken care
of.
No formal decision was made to
change the status quo on flower-
watering in Seaforth.
