The regular meeting of the UCW
was held in the basement of Knox
United Church. Plans were made for
the Bazaar and Soup and Sandwich
Lunch to be held 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
on Saturday, Sept. 15. Baking and
produce should be at the church
between 9 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. on
Saturday. This is a whole church
event and volunteers are welcome to
help set up Friday and early
Saturday morning.
Pat Hunking opened the meeting
with a poem, “There Too”, and read
the UCW purpose. Sheila Nixon
read a meditation on Bring a Friend
and offered prayer. The minutes ofthe June meeting were read andapproved and as this was the finishof this minute book, Muriel Coultes
read the minutes of the first meeting
recorded in the book which was June
1998. Very few of the women taking
part then are still attending meetings
now. The roll call was answered by
stating what is the first thing you
always do as fall arrives. Pat
Hunking gave the card report that
she had sent 14 cards over the
summer. It was agreed that the
September general meeting will be
cancelled and the next general
meeting will be held in late
November.
A special 50th UCW anniversary
service will be held on Sunday, Sept.
23 and the congregation is invited to
come and celebrate the work of the
women in this congregation.
Gladys Van Camp, Barbara
Anderson and Muriel Coultes served
lunch as plans were made around the
table.
The forthcoming marriage of
Jennifer Black and Joseph Garrickon Saturday, Sept. 15 is announced. The bridal couple are the children ofConnie Kuc and Tom Black and Christine and the late John Garrick. There will be an open reception atthe Black family farm at 8 p.m.Back to Church Sunday is Sunday,Sept. 16 at Knox United Churchwith gathering at 10:30 a.m. andworship at 11 a.m.
At their Sept. 4 meeting, Morris-
Turnberry councillors approved,
with no comment, a zoning change
for James and Lyn Jutzi for a portion
of their property on Brussels Line,
north of Brussels.
The amendment applies to about
five acres of the couple’s 124-acre
farm. The parcel includes the
family home and the barns and
sheds of Brussels Transport. The
business has been operating as a
home business but the Jutzis want to
expand one of the buildings and
require a change to agricultural
commercial-industrial-special
classification in order to qualify for
a building permit.
The rest of the farm will remain
zoned for agricultural use.
Council also supported the
severance of a lot in the middle of a
larger commercial lot on North St. in
Lower Town Wingham which would
have the effect of creating three
commercial lots, the other two of
which can be sold. The property is
owned by Malcolm and Donna
Anderson and is the site of a vehicle
repair shop.
Council approved the severance
with a condition that drainage
concerns of a neighbour be dealt
with.
