The Brussels Business & Cultural Centre is suited to an accumulation of activities and enterprise: By Ellen JeffersonWawanosh 4-H held its fourth andfifth sewing club meetings in the Auburn Hall on Monday, Aug.27. Upon arrival members got right to work. Some members began to cut out their second project, while others continued to sew their first one. With a good start to their projects, members took a break to do some book work. President Reba Jefferson led the 4-H pledge and roll call where members had to name a fastener or closure used on a garment. They listed buttons, snaps, hook and eye, Velcro, zippers and more. Next they reviewed some information from the week before about seam finishes, straight of the grain, stay stitching and pressing. For the next meeting, members are to review their books for a triviagame. Cathy provided examples ofthe samples members need toinclude in their books. They musthave a sample button and another fastener, a hem, a dart, two finished seams and examples of clipping, notching and gathering. Afterwards, the members went outside to do an obstacle course set up by junior leader, Kristina Drennan. After a close competition, members returned inside for a snack. Then they resumed their work on their projects. Maisy Jefferson completed her pajama shorts and Loretta Higgins finished her gym bag. Members started on their samples if they needed something to do. The meeting ended with members making up their own motto for sewing. Meagan Higgins said it best by mimicking the 4-H motto with “Learn to sew by sewing”. Craft time! Participants in the Belgrave Knox United Church Vacation Bible School enjoyed some craft time during their daily activities. The school was held last week from Monday to Friday.
