Convention dates were distributed.
A reminder that we are collecting
pennies for Parkwood and the goody
bags will need to be readied for Sept.
22.
The Saturday afternoon euchre at
11-and-a-half tables of players.
Winners were: high, Dianne Weber
and Shirley, 71; second, Bill Nethery
and Bill Logue and Lorraine and
Michelle, 69; third, Grace Corbett
and Bill Coleman, 68; lone hands,
Louise and Mary; low, Jean Bewley
and Elunid McNair, 36. Thank you
to Jean Davidson for helping
Bush Whittard with this week’s
euchre.
The fish fry crew had an event
very close to home at the farm of
Brett and Laura Fischer for their
Pioneer Seed Customer and
information day. The crew of Rick
McDonald, Randy White, Barry
Currie, Eric and Deb Ross looked
after the nearly 100 farmers and
families at lunch time on Saturday
afternoon.
The Branch was the venue for the
open house and later, family dinner
for the occasion of Leslie and
Yvonne Knight’s 50th wedding
anniversary. The couple welcomed alarge crowd for the afternoon socialand everyone enjoyed the delicious
light lunch provided by the family.
The couple invited family and
friends to join them at the farm for a
visit between the social and the
meal. A roast beef dinner was served
at 6:30 p.m. to about 90 family and
close friends. Entertainment after
the meal was provided by
grandchildren and various relatives
of the couple. The couple had three
boys – Rick, Jeff and Gerald and
have five grandchildren.
Congratulations to Leslie and
Yvonne.
The meal was provided by Deb
Caan, Jo-Ann McDonald, Mabel
Glanville, Sharon Robinson, Rick
McDonald and Mary Bradshaw.
Youth volunteers included Emily
and Sara Mitchell and Ashley
Stevenson.
Comrades Eric Ross and John
Lowe attended the District Council
meeting held at Mitchell Branch 128
on Sunday afternoon.
At the Sunday night dance folks
enjoyed the music of a new band, the
Tri-Country Band. There was a good
crowd of over 85.
The great music and evening was
enjoyed by all.
Just over 50 years ago Yvonne
McTaggart and Leslie Knight were
wed at the Moncrieff United Church
on Aug. 25, 1962.
Presided over by Rev. Arthur
Higginbotham, the ceremony was
witnessed by best man Harold
Knight, maid of honour Geraldine
McTaggart, ushers Jack Knight and
Scott McTaggart, Bridesmaids
Dorothy McTaggart, and Marg
Sherwin, flower girl Kathy Ward
and the ringbearer, Leslie’s nephew
Daniel Caryl.
Yvonne, the daughter of Allan and
Phyllis (nee Ward) McTaggart of
RR2 Brussels, and Leslie, son of
Gordon and Elsie (nee Smith)
Knight of Grey Township, then
had their honeymoon in the eastern
Canadian provinces before
moving to RR3 Brussels where
Leslie farmed and Yvonne,
formerly a teacher, sold insurance
after marriage.
Yvonne retired in 2000, and Les is
semi-retired as of 2009.
The couple have three children:
Jeffrey (husband of Nancy), Rick
(husband of Naomi) and Gerald
(husband of Twyla), as well as six
grandchildren, Will, Andrew,
Kaitlyn, Elisa, Chris and Dan
Knight.
The couple are members of the
Cranbrook Presbyterian Church and
Huronlea Volunteer Auxiliary.
Leslie is a member of the Masonic
Lodge while Yvonne is a member of
the Majestic WI, the Brussels
Horticultural Society and the
Brussels Agricultural Society.
The anniversary party was held on
Aug. 25 at the Brussels Legion with
an open house from 1:30 p.m. to
4 p.m. and dinner following at
6:30 p.m.
The guests of the event were very
generous with their donations to the
local food bank and the Cranbrook
Presbyterian Church.

Keeping the diamond shining
The Brussels Optimists received two donations form local baseball clubs to help with the
maintenance of the Brussels ball diamond which saw significant improvements last year.

Campbell and Mike Thomas, left, donating $1,000 on behalf of the Brussels Men’s Town
League. The money will help with touchups made by the Optimists as well as some work on
