Kid’s Corner bible camp at Brussels church was fun
Kid’s Corner is done for another
year. Of course it was fun, what
wouldn’t be with 50 to 60 kids
sining and running and playing and
eating for five afternoons in a row.
The staff from Camp Kintail set the
mood with the theme “Clues for the
Kingdom” with games, songs,
stories and even the daily snack
hinting at the clue of the day. Several
of the songs that we sang every day
are still spinning in my mind, so yes
it was good. The North Huron Food
Share was the focus as the children
learned to share each day. Generous
offering of food and cash will make
life better for folks because of the
children.
A party was held recently to
celebrate Grandma Emily. Tim and
Angela Cousins from Kitchenerbrought their new bundle to a familygathering so Aunt Laura could take aturn holding and welcoming babyDean. So if Emily and George are
looking pretty pleased with life –
Dean would be the answer.
Congratulations Tim and Angela.
A fracture is no fun for anyone but
when the hurting ankle belongs to a
very active boy, like Reid Button,
life needs to adjust. I had the
Listowel three here for Kid’s Corner,
so we took a pop to Blyth to see Mr.
Reid with Grandma Joan of course,
to see how a cast and the boy were
doing. I don’t think I’ve seen
crutches move that fast for a while.
Mind you he got stopped when the
girls offered their sympathy gifts –
cookies, flowers and a jar of
crickets – who could ask for more.
We actually had a cricket exchange
as we brought some Blyth ones
home, only fair I guess as we took
ours there. So in the world of
children and bugs, life is not always
fair but it is fun.
Grace McCall has settled into
village life in her new spot on Sports
Drive, so welcome Grace, hope Tory
Hill soon becomes home and is nottoo big of an adjustment. Welcometo Brussels!I hope you’re enjoying the greatfood at the market. It’s a nice spot to
spend some time browsing the wood
articles, the sewing, the crafts, the
meat and treats as well as the fresh
vegetables. We are very fortunate tolive in an agricultural community where food safety is notan issue.August is fast sneaking away, so get all the summer things done thatyou need or before you know it, itwill be September and all thatentails.Bye now, Betty G.W.

A NOTE FROM BETTY
There are many indicators that
summer is on the cusp of ending.
The days get a bit shorter, the nights
get a bit cooler and Canadians
celebrate Labour Day weekend as
the season’s final long weekend.
The Citizen’s Blyth and Brussels
offices will be closed on Labour
Day, Monday, Sept. 3, resulting in a
deadline shift for editorial and
advertising submissions.
The deadline for the Sept. 6 issue
will be on Friday, Aug. 31 at 2 p.m.
in Brussels and at 4 p.m. in Blyth.
The Citizen wishes all of its
readers a safe and happy long
weekend.
Amazing artists

and, of course, markers and paper for the decorations during the Brussels Community Bible
Chapel’s vacation bible school on Monday. The event is held all week. (Denny Scott photo)

The Brussels Legion Branch
hosted the District Sports meeting
on Saturday, Aug. 18. District Sports
Chairman Stan Howie chaired the
meeting. There were about 40
Comrades attending to discuss the
upcoming year of District sports
events. Comrade Rick McDonald,
Branch Sports Chairman attended.
There will be only one
District Sports event in the zone this
year.
The Branch provided a light lunch
for the Comrades following the
meeting. Preparing and serving the
lunch were Deb Caan and Mary
Bradshaw.

Telling a story
The Kid’s Corner Bible camp was held at the Brussels
Mennonite Fellowship church last week from Monday
through Friday. Attendees got to paint, write and draw
stories they felt were important during some of their
sessions and learned and played during others. (Denny Scott
