Continued from page 10 many “free” impromptu concerts would be playing and spent time at “The Mountains” where Elvis impersonator, Roy LeBlanc, was playing, along with other impersonators of Buddy Holly and Neil Diamond. Collingwood is a beautiful town and she enjoyed her time with her friends and enjoying the music. Doug Evans has returned from a four-day stay near Parry Sound at the cottage of daughter Cindy and husband Paul Fallis and family. He reports that he had been at the cabin on the 119 acres of bush in early July and that the water levels had dropped about six inches since then. It is a great place for hunting and fishing. He reports they had a bit of excitement, when his 14-year-old grandson Riley, who had started walking the path to leave, came running back after spotting a mother bear and her two cubs. There was no chase, but one never knows. Sandra Clark has returned from a five-week trip to Israel. She spent the first week visiting with her son Alan and his wife Galit and son Laon in Karmiel, in the north of Israel, near Lebanon. She then travelled to Jerusalem to the St. Charles Hospice, where she studied for four weeks. The 17 students from all over the world studied the Torah and the Book of Exodus. It was 48°C in the Galilee area where they stayed at the EinGev Resort. It was run by the Kibbutz Co-Op. It is communal living and everyone does their share and works together. They went on a three-day marathon and visited the Caesarea Maritima (the Roman Harbour), the Caesarea Philippi (the Roman Ruins) and the Pagan (the site at the head of the Jordan River). Each day they had three to four lectures from the Rabbis of all types. They ranged from reform to conservative Judaism. They enjoyed a Friday evening at the Synagogue and a traditional Shabbat dinner that lasts until Saturday evening. It is a happy time that starts with fine dining, toast with wine, flowers, candles, prayers and singing. Near the end of their time together, theyhave an International Talent night.The four Canadians attendingperformed the “I Am Canadian” song. A highlight of Sandra’s journey was she was chosen as the Valedictorian of the graduating class. Congratulations to Sandra and welcome home. Donna Hannon spent two weeks in the City of Whitehorse, Yukon Territory. She attended the World Women’s Fastball Championships. Whitehorse has amazing facilities to host the event and has hosted it in the past. Donna spent 14 years living in Whitehorse years ago. She watched some amazing ball and reports that Japan beat the USA in the finals. She had a great time visiting with many old friends of the area. Donna said she had to wear her parka the first couple of days and then the warm weather arrived and it was very nice. Welcome back Donna. Grandpa and Grandma Neil and Marie McGavin had four days of grandsons, Hayden and Jared Kelso for holidays. The Kelsos are from North Bay and they met Heather halfway in Orillia to get the boys. They had a grand time swimming, fishing and playing with their McGavin cousins while here. Jim and Linda McDonald welcomed their son Andrew home for a 10-day vacation from Edmonton. He arrived with his trusty companion, Winston, the dog. Andrew spent his time catching up with all of his friends and family, leaving Winston to get acquainted with Jim and Linda. Ten days just flew by and Andrew has returned back home in the west. Jack and Donna Knight have their Eastern family home for holidays. Weldon, Joanne, Andrew and Allison Black have arrived to spend a couple of weeks catching up with the rest of the family. They spent time going mostly on day trips of the area and London, Kitchener, Goderich and hopefully they enjoyed our hot, hot weather. They kept the Knight household busy for the two weeks they were here. The Zwep boys have enjoyed a couple of motorcycle trips this past month. The first trip from July 8-15 included George, Harry, Jerry and Nic Zwep and Henk Pardys. The four men from our area headed north to catch the Chi-Cheemaun Ferry and then headed for Sault Ste. Marie. Harry Zwep left the Toronto area and headed to the Sault to meet them. Jerry and Nic Zwep just made the ride to the Sault and then returned home via the northernOntario route. The rest continuedwest, on to Saskatchewan to visit afarmer friend. They went through the Badlands of Saskatchewan and then headed south. They went through North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin and down through Michigan to come home. They saw a bear, a moose and plenty of deer on their travels. A couple of days they hit rain, but that did not stop them or put a damper on their trip. They put 6,000 kilometres on the bikes on this adventure. The second trip was from July 30 –Aug 1 and was just the two brothers, George and Harry Zwep. They headed south to tour Northern Pennsylvania for several days. They report great touring roads, scenery and friendly people. They went to the Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania. They put 1,600 kilometres on the bikes for this short three-day trip. Enjoying a five-day trip motorcycle trip to the North were Don and Pat Dalton and Gerry and Anne Ryan. They headed forTobermory and crossed over toManitoulin Island on the Chi-Cheemaun ferry. They headed for Sault Ste. Marie and to Mackinac Island. They did a bit of shopping and the big purchases included shoes and fudge. They came home via the U.S. and crossed at Port Huron. They missed all the rain but report that it was very hot on the bikes. The Walton Hall hosted a Blyth Theatre dinner on Friday evening. They fed a delicious roast beef dinner to 26 theatre patrons. Helping for the hall were Barb Durrell, Betty McCallum, Annette Lewington and Judy Lee. Gerald and Joan Miller are here for their annual visitation to Ontario. Their home is now in Claresholm, Alberta, but they return to Ontario to visit their family and friends. They will be here until after the Threshers Reunion in Blyth. They have had visits with George and Fannie Somers and Howard and Alice Martin and of course their family.You will likely see them at somepoint around the area. Congratulations to Kent and Jasmine Moffat on the birth of a son. They welcomed the early arrival of Hudson at the end of July. Hudson is welcomed home by big sister Arabella. Excited grandparents are Ken and Gail Moffat. Welcoming a little girl to their family are Kurt and Katie Beuerman. Grandparents, Dennis and Bonnie Beuerman are pleased to have a new granddaughter named Bryn. Congratulations to Eric and Carla Goodfellow who have welcomed a daughter to their family. The newest addition is named Ellie Madelyn and she is a “blessing” according to big brothers Jordan and Brody. They are thrilled to have a baby sister. Happy grandparents are Don and Pat Dalton. Celebrating a special birthday on the holiday weekend was Heidi McClure. There were nearly 100 gather at the McClure home to celebrate Hawaiian style and to help Heidi enter into her 50s. The holiday weekend was also a time to surprise and celebrate a 25th wedding anniversary. Don and Jill Sholdice were surprised to arrive at the McCutcheon farm to a gathering in their honour. Family and friends gathered and enjoyed an afternoon of fun, food and stories of days gone by. Maxine Marks is still a patient in Seaforth Hospital and enjoys visits from her friends. Brian and Linda Marks have arrived from Calgary to spend some time with Maxine. They will be making a few changes around the house, but hopefully will have time to see some of their friends in Bah, bah, bah, bah Participants of the Kid’s Corner Bible School at the Brussels Mennonite Fellowship this week get to take part in all sorts of different fun.
