Central Huron Council decided to
proceed to the second stage of
investigation as to whether the
municipality would be an
appropriate location for nuclear
waste disposal site.
At the July 26 Committee of the
Whole meeting, council decided to
move to step two, with Mayor Jim
Ginn saying that there was still no
commitment on behalf of the
municipality, just that they would be
seeking more information by
approving the motion.
“We’re just requesting more
information,” said Councillor Brian
Barnim. “We’re not approving
anything, we’re just doing this to
learn more.”
Barnim said it could turn out that
Central Huron isn’t even a good site
for the project, but that they owe it to
the ratepayers of Central Huron to
investigate it further.
***
As it was Interim Chief
Administrative Officer Jack
McLachlan’s final meeting at his
temporary position, several
councillors took the opportunity to
thank him for his guidance and
commitment at a time when Central
Huron had a real need for guidance.
