Reporting directly to the Administrator/Clerk-Treasurer, the Chief Building Official shall administer and enforce the provisions of the Ontario Building Code Act, the Ontario Building Code (OBC), and the municipal Building By-Law; review permit applications, plans, drawings and specifications for conformity with all applicable regulations; issue building permits; conduct site inspections to ensure that construction meets appropriate standards and approved plans; issue orders as necessary; maintain accurate reports, records and files; investigate, administer and enforce applicable legislation; and carry out other duties as assigned from time to time. QUALIFICATIONS: • Certified Building Code Official (C.B.C.O) preferred • Five years related work experience, preferably in a municipal environment • Working knowledge and skills of building standards, trends, technology, materials and practices, construction, engineering or architectural technology, and strong knowledge of regulations, codes of practice, by-laws and policies that affect municipal planning • Knowledge of the Nutrient Management Act and regulations, along with knowledge of Farm Building Standards • Ability to read and interpret drawings and plans • Valid Ontario drivers license with a clean abstract • Good computer and record management skills The ideal candidate will have the ability to deal effectively, courteously, and tactfully with the general public, contractors and construction industry professionals.
