THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, JULY 12, 2012.Sports Brussels Tigers top Brewers 11-2 The Walton Brewers continue to struggle in the Huron County Fastball League. The latest team to take advantage of the struggling team was the Brussels Tigers. The Tigers scored an 11-2 decision over the Brewers on July 4 at the Walton ball park. Ty Sebastian went the distance on the mound for the Tigers and recorded a dozen strikeouts. Jeff Smith started on the mound for the Brewers and was relieved by Scott Cox and they combined for seven strikeouts. Wade Stephenson clubbed a home run and a triple for the Tigers. Ty Sebastian hit a triple and was hit by a pitch twice. Steve Scholl hit a double and Jason Kellington, Justin Pipe and Nathan Watson each rapped out a pair of singles. Getting one single apiece were Jamie Hickling, Shawn Daw and Doug Shaw. Darryl Houston hit a lead-off triple for the Brewers in the bottom of the first inning but was unable to be hit home. He also contributed a single. Rapping out single base hits were Scott McDonald, Kevin Murray, Jeff Smith and Scott Cox. Veteran player Blaine Marks said the Brewers received good pitching from Jeff Smith and Scott Cox. He said the biggest problem for the Brewers was a lack of hitting. Tigers veteran player Doug Show said it was a good win for the team. “We received strong pitching from Ty Sebastian and Wade Stephenson provided the big bat with a home run, he said. He added that it is always good to beat the Brewers. The Brewers played host to the Wingham Hitmen on Tuesday and the host the Wroxeter Rippers on Thursday beginning at 8 p.m. at the Walton ball park. The Tigers hosted the Blyth Barons on Wednesday and then travel to Goderich on Monday for an 8:30 p.m. contest against the Grizzlies. While they are defending champions, they can’t seem to put one in the win column as the Brussels Tigers slammed them 11-2 in Huron County Fastball action. (Jim Brown photo) It was a Canada Day worth celebrating for the Teeswater Otters Bantam Boys OASA team this past weekend. Fifteen teams from across Ontario battled at the All Ontario Elimination hosted by Napanee Minor Ball. Teeswater, including Brody Ten Pas, Hayden Ten Pas and Mitch Kellington from Brussels faced teams from Tavistock (5-2), Fullerton (9-0) and Grand Valley (2- 1) before meeting up with arch rivals Port Perry Lake Scugog Lumber Jacks. The Jacks had their way with Teeswater in their first meeting of the tournament 8-0. With their first loss in the double knock-out tournament, the Otters were set to play the host team Napanee Express in the semi-final game. Mother Nature had cooked up a warm one on Canada’s birthday, but both teams dug in and Teeswater came up with a handy 9-1 win over Napanee. Port Perry was a fresh and rested undefeated team heading into the final showdown. With the Otters’ previous loss to the Jacks, Teeswater would have beaten them twice to bring home the hardware. Teeswater won the first game 5-4 over Port Perry which forced a second and deciding game. The Otters led off the scoring with a run in the first inning and racked up another four runs in the fourth. The Jacks rallied to score a run in the fourth and two in the seventh, but it wasn’t enough. Final score was 5-3. The Otters brought the banner home to Teeswater. Otter pitcher Matt Wardrop sealed the deal with pitching honours for the tournament. Top eight teams from this elimination tournament will move on to the “A” tournament final in Port Perry Aug. 10-12. As top two teams, both Teeswater and Port Perry earned themselves invitations to the Eastern Canadian Championships to be held in St. Croix, Nova Scotia Aug. 23-26.
