HAVE YOU EVER CONSIDERED A CAREER IN THE FARM EQUIPMENT FIELD?
Students look back on 10 years at Seaforth PS
By Zak Goos and Carley McIlroy
Zak:Good evening fellow
graduates, parents, staff and guests,
welcome to the Grade 8 graduating
ceremony of 2012! Today the
graduates of Seaforth Public School
were getting all dressed up and
pampered for this particular evening.
I would know, because I went
through it myself. But really, what
makes this night so special? The
answer is simple – tonight’s a
celebration! Tonight we’re
celebrating 10 years of hard work
and listening to teachers against our
own will. All knew this day would
come and the teachers, parents or
even ourselves are prepared for it,
well here it is.
Carley:Eighth grade graduation
is a huge step in one’s education. It
is a transition from our
responsibilities from kids to young
adults. Now after 10 years – 10 long,
hard, painful years, we can finally
move onto bigger and better things.
And I know this will not be the best
10 years of your life, unless you
consider no running in the halls and
no gum chewing the best 10 years of
your life. Then there may be
something wrong with you. I know
you’re all nervously awaiting what
new adventures tomorrow has to
bring because there’s no telling
what’s to come in our next four
years.
Zak:We’ve come a long way
from children, from not always
making it to the bathroom on time,
and learning our ABCs, to now
outstanding students studying
history, learning algebra, taking
advanced reading and writing and
coming together to make this year
our best. I’m sure we all still
remember being in Grade 1,
spending our recesses hanging out in
the sandbox and trying our hardest
not to colour outside of the lines. We
all looked up to the Grade 8
students. They were the rulers of the
school, and now after so many years
we have taken on that role – who
everyone looks up to. We are the
oldest and hopefully the most
mature students in the building.
Carley:Many of the graduates
have roamed these halls since we
coloured with fat crayons and
needed help opening juice boxes. I
can remember when recess was for
chasing boys or making them our
bodyguards and next year we won’t
even have recess. We all know that
recess was one of the things that
made school bearable but really, I
think our friends were the ones who
kept us from going insane. Over the
years, friendships have been made,
broken and sometimes even made
again. And, of course, with all these
friendships came memories. We are
going to miss all the friends we’ve
made, all the teachers that pushed us
past our limits, but most of all I’m
sure we’ll all miss seeing the same
faces every day.
Zak:The graduates this year are
all wonderful people and I am proud
to say that I spent the last year of
public school with them by my side.
Our graduating class ranges in
personalities from the quiet, shy
simple type to the hard-core party
animals and everyone in between.
We have the outgoing loud ones and
the ones who are obsessed with
hockey. We have the Olympic
athletes and the book worms.
Without each and everyone of them,
this year wouldn’t have been the
same.
Carley:I could ask every
graduate here what their favourite
memory of their school career is. I
can guarantee you that I’d get a
variety of answers. Some may say
that it was in Grade 1 when Kasey
practically ate his chapstick or
another student might say it was
when Stuart shaved Mr. Vercruyssen
or when Mrs. Black decided it would
