Teachers, parents, fellow
graduates: Tonight marks the end of
10 years of our time at Hullett
Central Public School and the
beginning of a new, exciting step in
all our lives…New teachers, new
friends, new experiences.
It doesn’t seem all that long ago
when we nervously first stepped foot
in these daunting halls. Starting our
years in the comfort of the
kindergarten classroom. We
gradually made our way through the
junior classrooms until we reached
the final senior room and we were
the top dogs of the school. We have
all made this journey together. We
have matured into young adults
wanting to stretch our wings to all
the possibilities that will present
themselves as we begin the next
chapter.
September seems like just
yesterday when we started out in
Grade 8, anxiously waiting for this
night to come and now here we
stand, finally at the end of the school
year as graduates. Thanks to our
teacher Mr. Coups who I know has
prepared us in every way possible
both academically and socially. We
all turned to him for advice with our
daily troubles and he never failed to
surprise us with his unique answers
and views on different situations.
We will not forget his favourite
saying “you catch more flies with
honey than vinegar” or my favourite
“the buses have just left” every
single day. He also humoured us
with hilarious stories but he limited
them to just one story per day, but
we would always beg and make him
spill more of his funny memories.
I feel very confident beginning the
rest of my life with all the valuable
traits and lessons that have been
imparted on us. Being a Grade 8
teacher must be very trying and
difficult at times dealing with many
changing personalities, moods and
attitudes. Mr. Coups graciously
accepted this challenge and adapted
quickly, never giving up on us, and
making our last year all the more
enjoyable. We are very thankful that
he was our teacher and we will
remember all the great memories of
him and never forget our time in his
class.
I would be remiss if I didn’t
mention the contributions of the
kind staff here at Hullett. Many
generously gave up their extra time
to supervise our addiction to playing
volleyball games or kindly
supported us all throughout the year.
You have all been positive
influences and have taught and
prepared us with many important
virtues we will carry with us in the
future.
Many changes will happen in our
lives as we graduate but many
changes will also take place for the
students returning to Hullett in the
fall. They will be joined by students
from Blyth Public School and new
friendships and memories will
develop. I genuinely wish them the
best of luck.
The end of this school year also
marks the beginning of the next
chapter in Mrs. Pickell’s life as she
is set to retire. We all had her as a
teacher and are glad she hung in
there and waited for us to graduate.
She was a great teacher and role
model in this school and I’m sure
everyone will be sorry to see her go.
Best of wishes to her.
Well, this is it, everything we have
experienced and learned throughout
the years at this school has
culminated with this very night. We
entered these halls as terrified four-
and-five-year-olds and now here we
leave, as mature young adults and
independent young men and women.
I wish everyone the best of luck, as
you embark on your new and
different paths and to remind you to
never forget the cherished memories
of our many years spent at this
school together. Hullett Central has
been our safe place and sanctuary
but now it is time to move on. In the
inspiring words of Dr. Seuss….“You
have brains in your head you have
feet in your shoes. You can steer
yourself in any direction you
choose. You’re on your own, and
you know what you know. You are
the one who’ll decide where
to go.”
Congratulations…..Class of 2012!
