Holthuysen reflects on school’s last year
By Riley Holthuysen
Today I woke up and thought,
“whoa, time has really flown by! It
seems like just yesterday we were
little, insecure, beady-eyed children
wetting our beds and sucking our
thumbs.” But look where we are
now! We are sitting amongst our
future doctors, business leaders and
Wal-Mart executives. Good evening
to staff, family, friends and fellow
graduates. I am absolutely honoured
to be standing here representing the
graduating class of 2012. On behalf
of the graduates, I would like to
thank you for joining us on this
occasion marking this milestone in
our lives.
Graduation is a time of reflecting
on the past and looking onward to
the future. It is a time that we, as
graduates, get together for one last
celebration before moving on to
bigger and better adventures. This
year we have a very unique and
exceptional group of students who
are graduating and are the last
graduating class of Brussels Public
School. We all have been through so

are today. Back then our biggest and
most important decision was who to
play with at recess, but now we’re
making choices about our courses
for next fall that will shape our
entire future. These decisions are a
bit more important than those
decisions we made in our primary
years.
As all of us gathered here are
aware, there is something really
special and unique about Brussels
Public School. It doesn’t involve the
fact that our past principal, Mr. Carr,
had the best Irish accent ever. Or
