(Denny Scott photo) Holthuysen reflects on school’s last year By Riley Holthuysen Today I woke up and thought, “whoa, time has really flown by! It seems like just yesterday we were little, insecure, beady-eyed children wetting our beds and sucking our thumbs.” But look where we are now! We are sitting amongst our future doctors, business leaders and Wal-Mart executives. Good evening to staff, family, friends and fellow graduates. I am absolutely honoured to be standing here representing the graduating class of 2012. On behalf of the graduates, I would like to thank you for joining us on this occasion marking this milestone in our lives. Graduation is a time of reflecting on the past and looking onward to the future. It is a time that we, as graduates, get together for one last celebration before moving on to bigger and better adventures. This year we have a very unique and exceptional group of students who are graduating and are the last graduating class of Brussels Public School. We all have been through so much together and grown together. As we look back on our 10 amazing years at Brussels Public School, we see that it’s played a unique role in molding us into the young men and women we are today. Ten years ago we walked into this school much smaller than we are today. Back then our biggest and most important decision was who to play with at recess, but now we’re making choices about our courses for next fall that will shape our entire future. These decisions are a bit more important than those decisions we made in our primary years. As all of us gathered here are aware, there is something really special and unique about Brussels Public School. It doesn’t involve the fact that our past principal, Mr. Carr, had the best Irish accent ever. Or Continued on page 19
