Lexi Aitken takes top spot in OFSAA hurdle event
Lexi has done it again. The sports
reporter on London television
station announced last Saturdayevening that Lexi had won the 30-metre hurdles race at OFSSA. Greatjob, Lexi.Integrity is the character attribute
being considered at Hullett Central
this last month of 2011/2012. A
quote by Marcus Aurelius backs up
the attribute: “If it is not right, do not
do it. If it is not true, do not say it.”
I had a conversation with my
roving reporter again this week and
heard all about a recent outing some
classes at Hullett Central went on.
On June 5, pupils fromKindergarten through Grade 3attended a student performance of‘The Wizard of Oz’ at the HuronCountry Playhouse in Grand Bend
along with about 600 other pupils
from area schools. I heard all about
Dorothy and Toto from Kansas
being caught up in a tornado and
being transported. As he recounted
the story he told me about the tin
man needing a heart, the scarecrow
needing a brain and the lion needing
courage as they travelled along the
yellow brick road to get help fromthe wizard. The struggles with thewitches, east and west, werementioned also. They have a new puppy at their
house and he was impressed with
Toto, a shitzu dog, and how well hewas trained in the role. The childrenwere told that the puppy auditionedin Toronto just after Christmas andhis siblings are also in training for
the role.By BRENDA

PEOPLE AROUND LONDESBORO
Impromptu recess
After a fire alarm was tripped at Hullett Central Public School on June 12 around 10 a.m.
students found themselves waiting on the front lawn of the school until North Huron
Firefighters could verify that the building was safe before they were allowed back inside to
continue classes. (Denny Scott photo)
Sounding the all clear
It took thermal imaging and a sweep of the premise before
Deputy Fire Chief David Sparling of the Fire Department
of North Huron, right, was able to tell Hullett Central Public
School staff that there didn’t seem to be a fire in the
building despite alarms to the contrary on June 12. (Denny

Lions hosting breakfast for Dad
I am always grateful when a
reader offers an item for this space.
So one would think I would get the
facts straight. However, in last
week’s column I attributed a PHD
degree in psychology to the wrong
brother. It is actually Kevin
Trewartha who will graduate from
Concordia University on June 18.
My apologies to Kevin and his
parents for my gaffe.
You can take dad out for a Father’s
Day breakfast at the Londesborough
Community Hall on Sunday, June
17. The local Lions Club is serving
breakfast from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
that day. Adults are $7 and children
under 12, $3.
Bert and Joanne Lyon celebrated
their 55th wedding anniversary with
a week-long holiday in Panama.
They toured the rain forest and
Monkey Island and sailed through
the canal. Bert did say the weather
was almost unbearably hot and
humid the whole time.
Congratulations on such an
auspicious anniversary.
If you are a churchgoer you will
have realized that the ‘dress code’
we all observed at the bidding of our
parents has changed considerably in
recent years. Hats, gloves, dresses
and suits have been replaced by
more casual attire. As in many
churches these days children from
the Sunday School bring the
collection from the classes when
offering is received from the
congregation. My ‘roses’ for this
week happened during that time.
One of the young girls was wearing
the neatest pair of loafer-style
running shoes that were quite pink
and sparkly.
