Nesbit, Stevenson earn 8 Ks
The Brussels Mites “B” Team
were on the road again on Tuesday,
June 5. This time, it was in Ethel.
The team, once again, came away
with an impressive one-sided win.
John Nesbit and Allison Stevenson
combined for a one hitter, with eight
strikeouts. It was the second time the
team has held their opponents to just
one hit. Centrefielder Charles Hoy,
shortstop Christopher Pennington
and catcher Ryan Jacklin were
involved in an impressive out at
home plate, ending Ethel’s chance of
getting into the game.
Jaimie Newell continued to be
adjusting to the role as lead-off
batter, going 3-3 and scoring twice.
Ali Barbour also reached base each
time she batted, scoring twice as
well.
Wade Machan, Devin Bridge and
Jackson McDonald Inglis continued
to swing hot sticks.
The team will have their pictures
taken at 6 p.m. Friday, June 15. Just
before their home opener against
Wingham at 7 p.m. The team expects
a much bigger challenge with the
Wingham squad.
Bles wins at Walton raceway
Under sunny skies and perfect
track conditions, over 600 riders
showed up Sunday for the annual
Walton Raceway double header.
With Mother Nature’s heavy rain
cancelling Saturday’s program, all
the races were moved to Sunday.
Although it made for a busy day,
track staff and officials did
everything in their power to ensure
the long day ran smoothly.
The one positive that came from
Saturday’s storm’s was that with the
added moisture to the dirt, track
conditions for Sunday’s race were
near perfect. Perhaps it was the
extra knowledge of the Walton
Raceway track, but local riders
enjoyed a lot of success in Sunday’s
race. In the one of the most
competitive races of the year in
Ontario, Varna’s, Nathan Bles was
the big winner of the day, winning
both the Pro Class as well as the
Youth Class. Bles is quickly making
a name for himself in Canadian
Motocross as not only a fast rider on
the track, but a fan favourite off the
track.
Other local riders who enjoyed a
lot of success on Sunday at Walton
Raceway were Walton’s 15-year-old
Mitchell Godkin, Jamie Hern of
Exeter, and Blake Knoop of
Goderich. All three riders finished
very well in their respected classes
proving that local talent is running
deep in the sport of Motocross.
Godkin accomplished almost the
unthinkable on Sunday, finishing
fifth in the Supermini class
competing against kids ranging from
seven to 16, then turning around and
finishing an amazing 15th in the
MX3 Intermediate class, one of the
fastest classes of the day with riders
ranging from 15 to 20 years of age.
Sunday’s race also was the last
opportunity to qualify for the Parts
Canada Transcan held in August at
Walton Raceway.
The next event at Walton Raceway
is the WEC cross-country on June
24.
The Parts Canada Transcan is the
biggest Motocross race in Canada,
drawing over 1,000 riders from all
over North America. This year will
mark the 21st anniversary of the
famous race and it will take place
from Aug. 15 to Aug. 19 at Walton
Raceway.
