An organization holding dance classes above the Central Huron municipal office five nights a week has been bothering municipal employees, council heard at its May 31 Committee of the Whole meeting. Councillor Alison Lobb asked if the group should come back to the June Committee of the Whole meeting, as its year-long agreement would be coming to an end soon and the dance season is set to begin in August. Lobb said she had spoke with a number of employees and been at the office after 5 p.m. (when the classes begin) herself and felt something with the arrangement needed to change. “We should move it,” Lobb said. Lobb suggested that the classes’ start times be moved to at least 5:30 p.m. each night, if not 6 p.m. Facilities Manager Steve Campbell said the group is practising in the space above the municipal office from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. every Sunday and every other Saturday. Councillor Brian Barnim said council needed to hear from staff members whether the arrangement was working for them or not. “If it’s not working for staff, that’s what we need to hear from staff,” Barnim said. Councillor Marg Anderson said she didn’t want to shut herself off from the needs of municipal staff, but that she didn’t want to keep the dance studio out of the conversation completely either. The demand is there and the program is bringing dozens of dancers and their families into the Dance group affectsmunicipal workers Congratulations The Brussels Cadets received their awards at their annual inspection night last week.
