Diamonds discussed at councilConcerns regarding the re-equiping of a baseball diamond
explored in The Citizen were
discussed during North
Huron Township Council’s June 4
meeting.
During the meeting, which was
held at the Emergency Services
Training Centre (ESTC) in Blyth,
Councillor Bernie Bailey mentioned
the article about the diamonds at the
Blyth Campground and said he
didn’t like the way that council was
portrayed in it.
“It came across that we dragged
our feet and they ran out of funds,”
he said, adding he understands the
constraints of non-profitorganizations as he was a treasurerfor one. Deputy-Reeve David Riach statedhe had already contacted the parties
involved in the issue last year and
believes that the issue was a case of
miscommunication all around.
“They had the money in their
account to [erect a fence that was
removed] and nothing happened.
Then they spent the money,” he said.
“I think if they had some
encouragement to go ahead and do
the fencing for the ball field,
they would but there was a
lack of communication from all
sides.”
He went on to say that he was
surprised by the issue coming up
again as he believed they werecoming to council to talk about theissue last year but never made it.Reeve Neil Vincent said heremembered the issue but felt that
council was waiting for direction
from the group, instead of vice-
versa.
“My recollection was that after the
other fence had been removed some
questions arose as to how badly they
needed the fence replaced,” he said.
“I thought the group would have
approached council, but we didn’t
want to tell them what to do or not
do. We wanted the people involved
to give us direction.”
Council directed staff to have a
report on the issue brought to their
next council meeting.

Grade 8 class returns from trip
By Phaedra Scott
The Grade 8 students arrived
home from Camp Celtic on
Thursday. They had an amazing time
and came back with lots of stories to
share and memories they will never
forget. Although they had a great
time and want to talk about all the
fun experiences, unfortunately, there
is still plenty of work to do. In math,
Grade 8 students are beginning a
new unit of geometry.
Regional track and field will take
place on June 6. Grade 7 and 8
students not going to track will be
going with Mrs. Armstrong on a
Robotics tour at D&D Automation
in Stratford. Good luck and have
fun.

This week, the Grade 2 students
have been learning all about the
simple machines. They learned how
to build and use a lever to lift their
teacher Mr. Gole. In math, they have
been learning how to use growing
and shrinking number patterns to
solve problems. Mr. Gole has also
been very impressed with the animal
research projects that the Grade 2
students have been presenting this
week. The Grade 4/5 students are
learning about probability and how
to make good choices when rolling
two six-sided dice.
They have been working on
writing their own memories of their
time at Blyth Public School. They
are also working at creating jot notes
about two ancient civilizations
which they will then use to write a
