‘Suspicious’ firefought near WaltonA suspicious fire just south of
Blyth Road on North Line had
firefighters from the Grey Township
Fire Department as well as Ontario
Provincial Police on scene on May
29 at approximately 10 p.m.
The fire did extensive damage to a
two-story brick farm house which
also suffered extensive interior
smoke damage before firefighters
were able to get it under control.
In a press release OPP Constable
Jamie Stanley stated that the cause
of the fire is suspicious in nature
and the Huron OPP Crime Unit is
still investigating the blaze.
An exact dollar amount of
damages sustained was not
available as of press time.
The OPP welcome any
information regarding the incident
through either their office at 1-888-
310-1122 or 519-524-8314 or
through Crime Stoppers.
Crime Stoppers allows callers to
remain anonymous through their
hotline at 1-800-222-8477 and
callers may also receive a cash
reward of up to $2,000.

Cadets reviewed, given awards

Tuesday evening was the final
night for the Cadet Corp 2967. They
held their annual inspection was Lt.
Colonel Retired Jim Abbott with the
reviewing officer. The evening
began with the 36 members of the
Corp Marching on the Flags. The
reviewing officer then reviewed the
Corp. The Cadets then presented
their static displays from the various
levels.
Awards followed with the first
award for the Most Improved Junior
NCO Award being awarded to Lance
Corporal Brandon Traynor. The
Senior Most Improved NCO Award
was presented to Master Corporal
Murray Tait. The Top Junior NCO
Award was presented to top
deserving Cadets – Lance Corporal,
Zachary Walsh and Lance Corporal
Brittany. The Legion Medal of
Excellence was presented to Chief
Warrant Officer Josh Struthers by
Comrade Jo-Ann McDonald. The
Lord Strathcona Medal was
presented to Sgt. Curtis Terpstra. The
Junior Commanding Officer Award
was presented to Lance Corporal,
Mitchell Ward. The Commanding
Officer Senior Award was presented
to Sgt. Jacob Nixon. The Terry
Glanville Warrant Officer Award was
presented to Master Warrant Officer
Dylan Barker. A new award created
is the National Star Certification
Award and was presented to warrant
officer Tiffany Struthers.
A special award was presented to
Captain Dawson by Sgt. Bourque of
Detachment. He presented the
Directors Seal of Excellence for
recognition of the tremendous
accomplishments achieved through
Cadet attraction and retention
initiatives. The great efforts ensure
that the Cadet program will thrive
for many years to come. There are
only two of these awards presented
in Ontario. The Cadets then marched
off the colours and all attending
enjoyed a light lunch.
The Saturday afternoon euchre
had 12 tables in play. Winners were:
first, Lorna and Ethel, 84; second,
Lillian Appleby and Mae, 77; third,
Deanna and George Bacon, 73; lone
hands, Mary McIntosh and Bev
Hayden, nine; low, Ruth and Alice,
51. Euchre is every two weeks.
The Sunday night dance had a
great crowd of over 100 enjoy the
return of the John Heaman Band.
The helpers welcomed back Mary
Bradshaw to work the door and the
dancers also were glad to have Mary
return. Working for the Branch were
Mable Glanville, Judy Lee, Allyson
Cardiff and Jo-Ann McDonald.

The Municipality of Huron East Rec. Dept. is hosting
Youth Engagement Day.
The one for the Brussels area will be held June 8th, PD Day
1:00 - 4:00 pm at the Arena
This is for all youth age 13-18, we will have activities,
food, guest speaker and a time for you to tell us what you
would like us to offer as far as physical activities and
programs for your age groups. Come on out and be heard.
