On May 26 the McGavin clan,
along with friends and family, filled
the Brussels, Morris and Grey
Community Centre Auditorium to
celebrate the 50th wedding
anniversary of Marie and Neil
McGavin.
R. Marie Johnston of Bluevale,
daughter of Florence and Carl
Johnston, wed G. Neil McGavin of
Walton, son of Florence and Gordon
McGavin at the Bluevale United
Church on June 2, 1962.
In attendance for the ceremony
were Elizabeth (McGavin)
Dinsmore, Marlene Walsh, Mae
(Doubledee) Moffat, Lorna (Bolt)
Brown, Bill Dinsmore, Mack
Sholdice (deceased), Keith Johnston
and John McGavin (deceased). The
flower girl was Leslie McGavin
and the ringbearer was Kevin
Campbell.
After the ceremony Marie and
Neil left for Ottawa and the
Thousand Islands area for their
honeymoon before retuning to live in
Walton.
Neil has been involved in parts and
sales at McGavin Farm Equipment
Ltd. in Walton all his life after
graduating from the Ontario
Agriculture College in Guelph in
1957.
Marie was a full-time mother as
well as an assistant at McGavin
Farm Equipment and a community
Volunteer.
The couple have four children;
Brian and wife Shelley McGavin,
Cathy and husband Pat Melady, Jeff
and wife Shannon McGavin and
Heather and husband Bryan Kelso.
While sons Brian and Jeff
continue to operate the family
business in Walton, Neil still goes towork every day despite having“supposedly” retired some time ago.The McGavins also have many
grandchildren including Brent, Alex
and Shayna Melady; Brandon, Abby,
Tyson and Taylor (deceased)
McGavin; Hayden, Jessica, Jared
and Ella Kelso and Jacob,
Mackenzie and Teegan
McGavin.
Neil and Marie are very involved
in their community with Neil
holding the following honours and
being a part of the following groups:
• Duff’s United Church
• The Brussels Lions
• The Masonic Lodge
• Past President of the Ontario
Dealer Association
• Past President of the Ontario
Plowmen’s Association
• Brussels and area Citizen of the
Year Award winner.
• Speaker and entertainer at
meetings and banquets (Neil donates
funds made through this practice to
the local 4-H clubs
• The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee
Award
• The Agri-Food and RuralCommunities Volunteer Award fromthe University of Guelph.Marie keeps herself busy with her
volunteer and community work at
Duff’s United Church in Walton, the
Clinton Public Hospital Foundation,
The Huron County Plowing
Matching and through entertaining
family, baking and music.
The couple enjoys living life to the
fullest according to Marie and enjoy
travelling and being around
people.
McGavins celebrate their 50th anniversary

Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Centre with a limo ride to Goderich for a family dinner
at Thyme on 21 thrown in. The couple welcomed hundreds of visitors to the centre to celebrate

Watering Restriction
and
Conservation Efforts
To ensure that the municipality has a sufficient supply of water in case
of an emergency and to promote water conservation the following water
policy will take effect JUNE 1, 2012.
Residents with an even house number will be permitted to water on
even days. Residents with an odd house number will be permitted to
water on odd days.
Watering of gardens, flowerbeds and lawns shall only be permitted
during the evening between the hours of 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
This watering policy shall remain in effect until September 30, 2012.
