On Saturday, May 26 the Stanley
Complex in Varna will just be
hopping as the Blyth Festival
Singers present “Broadway, Brass
and Blues.”
The annual cabaret dinner and
concert will highlight some of
Broadway’s greatest show tunes.
Those in attendance will also hear
the wonderful vocal stylings of 20-
year-old Anne Potter. Potter hails
from Goderich, where she grew up
with interests in theatre and music.
She has performed in many
competitions for both acting and
singing, and is now in her second
year at Sheridan College, where she
studies musical theatre performance.
She is delighted to be able to share
her music with you.
Rounding up the evening’s
entertainment is the Goderich-based
Suncoast Brass. After some urgings
of trombonist Jim Hamilton to “get
something going,” the Suncoast
Brass was formed in the fall of 2010.
Hugh McGregor, Al Mullin and
Shelly Johnson took up his
challenge and the group started
weekly rehearsals. For many years
Jim has been acquiring and
arranging a lot of brass quartet and
quintet music and every rehearsal
brought forth more arrangements.
Soon the “book” had almost 100
pieces. The quartet has played
Goderich’s Harbour Park, and
Courthouse gazebo, and has twice
participated as part of the Stratford
Concert Band’s summer concerts.
There have also been two concerts at
Maitland Manor. Both Al and Hugh
are retired GDCI music teachers and
Shelly is the current music teacher
there. Nancy Ross, who replaced
Jim Hamilton this year, teaches
music in Wingham. Says Al Mullin,
with tongue firmly in cheek, “We all
like the colour blue, long walks on
the beach in the moonlight, but not
together and taking ourselves very
seriously.”
In addition to the Singers’ dinner
and cabaret concert, a silent auction
is also on offer. Tickets are $25 and
children, 12 and under, can get in for
only $12. Tickets are available at
The Blyth Festival Box Office at
519-523-9300, at The Dutch Store,
Clinton; The Village Bookshop,
Bayfield; The Citizen office in
Brussels and at the Livery in
Goderich, or from any Blyth Festival
Singer. Get your tickets early as this
is often a sold-out performance. The
Blyth Festival Singers are pleased to
have 104.9 The Beach as their media
sponsor.

successful day for tourism operators
in and around Huron County.
We often take things for granted
in this world. It is often assumed
that someone is simply doing their
job. The skills and professionalism
Cindy, Jenna, Brittany, and Marie,
and their colleagues, bring to the
County of Huron, and in their
partnership with the tourism
industry, continue to be essential to
the success and growth of tourism in
Huron. But they are doing much
more than just their jobs. They go
above and beyond, at all times, even
if quitting time is long past.
I hope the residents of the county
will join the Huron Tourism
Association Board of Directors in
expressing thanks for their hard
work.
Sincerely,
Tim Cumming, President,
Huron Tourism Association
