Assisting with the baptism were Darrell Bergsma, chairperson of the official board, and Sherry Postma, president of the UCW. In lieu of a story that morning the children in attendance had front row seats for the baptism. At the end of the service the Sunday School children gave all the women present a Mother’s Day card with a scrubby flower for making dish time easier and a packet of seeds for the flower bed. Another special of the day was a men’s choir that sang two numbers, “I Hear Music in the Air” and “Never-ending Joy”. The scripture passages from Ephesians 5:25-33 and 6:1-4 offered instructions to husbands and children regarding their wives and parents respectively. “Caregiving” was the title of Terry’s message. He made note of a recent survey of thousands of persons around the question, “What is the greatest threat to family life today?” The answer, inattentive parents. Terry remarked that parents/caregivers who are attentive to the children around them are a true blessing. They pass on the heritage of Christian values and set examples. Although Christian families come in all shapes and types children still receive the love and nurture they need. It has been researched that the quantity of time is not as important as the quality of time one spends with a child. It is not the ‘things’ a child receives that is important but the attentive and listening ear that make him/her feel important and happy. Terry finished his message by reading a very tongue in cheek poem about parenting and instilling the standards to live by, “My Mean Mother”. The Official Board of Londesborough United will meet on May 29 beginning at 7:30 p.m. The Londesborough UCW will hold their May meeting on Monday, May 21 beginning with dessert at 7:30 p.m. Margaret Bakker is looking for the guest book from the 150th anniversary service. Fellow OPP officers have taken up Mounsey’s cause of trying to better the world by joining Canada Sings, a reality show on Global TelevisionNetworks which has individuals andgroups face-off against each other inmusical numbers. The team competing on behalf ofthe OPP plans to donate anywinnings to the DMMF and consistsof team captain and 911 DispatcherCeleste Bailey, 911 Dispatcher DebBenjamin, Detective ConstableValerie Burns, Superintendent and Bureau Commander Susanne Decock, Staff Sergeant Barry Farndon, Native Awareness Trainer and Aboriginal Police officer AshleyKeays, Provincial ConstableNicholas Keays, Technology TrainerDoug Sgariglia and Sergeant JeffSimpkins. Wagler and board chair Jenny Versteeg, who also represents North Perth, voted against the motion before the board. *** Which communities will see an accommodation review next won’t be known until board staff presents their annual student accommodation report, possibly this June or September. In an e-mail, AMDSB manager of communications Steve Howe wrote that, “the report does not always recommend a review and can just be an overview of the current situations and analysis of future trends.” When trustees voted to place Colborne Central and Holmesville schools under review this past September, the board already had another accommodation review in Stratford underway. Director of education Ted Doherty noted that the move was very unusual and only came about because of the damage discovered at Colborne Central. At the time, Doherty said the next preliminary accommodation review would not be until the 2012-2013 school year, and likely later in the year. In their June 2011 preliminary accommodation analysis report, board staff noted a “general commitment” to not conduct a review in an area more than once every five years, although the board could conduct a review but not implement the decision until farther in the future. Both the areas of West Perth and Perth South last underwent an accommodation review in 2007- 2008. Continued from page 1 “On the other hand, we’re very stretched for money.” Riach echoed those comments but said he had spoken to people on the ground regarding the event. “I spoke with three people in charge of organizing the event and they worked hard and put a lot of time and effort into it,” he said. “Like Brock, I have mixed emotions but I think this is something good for our young people and they might get the attendance they want next year. I would really hate to short change or not help out the kids because they are the ones we want to keep in the area.” Reeve Neil Vincent, before agreeing to waive the $391.88 that council could, wanted to know if local people were involved. At that point, it was explained to him that Douglas was from Blyth and many of the performers were from the area.
