Kim Van Wyk of the Clinton Family Health was the guest speaker and informed the group of the resources and programs available there. Jennifer, a summer student with the Health Kick Program, was introduced by Kim. Kim stated that both staff and clinics are partnering to share resources. On April 16 many members were treated to a volunteer appreciation dinner. Auxiliary members gave comments from the speakers heard when 13 members attended the HAAO Spring Conference in Seaforth on April 30. Peggy Menzies told of her aunt, Ruby Haddy, who was the first nursing graduate from the Clinton Public Hospital and of Ruby’s exemplary nursing career. The auxiliary offers The Ruby Haddy Award each year to high school graduates who are entering studies in a health-related field. Students may ask their schools for application forms for this Huron County’s “truck-eating bridge” has claimed another victim. Huron County’s Director of Public Works Dave Laurie said the bridge on County Road 13 near Clinton, which has been an ongoing problem, has been hit by another truck. Laurie said the argument between Huron County and the railroad company with an allowance atop the bridge has been ongoing for months and he called the company’s last proposal “ridiculous”. Laurie says he hopes the issue will be sorted out by the end of June, but that he couldn’t make any promises. The county has wanted to make changes to the bridge for years, but needs the permission of the railroad company. “I don’t understand why we have to cater to the railroad,” said Goderich Mayor Deb Shewfelt. “It’s our road. The railroad might not even be allowed to cross it. “We may be going after someone when we don’t even need permission.” Laurie said he has been thorough in his research and the railroad company does have to be involved, as much as he wishes that wasn’t the case. “Nothing would delight me more,” Laurie said of not having to get the railroad company’s permission. “I’m not happy.” ❀ Auburn Co-op ❀ 519-526-7262 ❀ Belgrave Co-op ❀ 519-357-2711 1-800-267-2667 Receive a boxed plant with a minimum $10. purchase Come out and support your local kids!
