The Citizen, 2012-05-17, Page 8PAGE 8. THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, MAY 17, 2012. On Tuesday, May 8 the Wingham Golf and Curling Club kicked off ladies night with the opening golf and supper. The 25 ladies enjoyed nine holes of golf before joining in the dining lounge for a chicken buffet. Patti Nixon was the winner of the prize for closest to the pin. This is a great group of girls who get together every Tuesday to golf and they hold a fun night every month. The Wednesday senior men had 23 golfers on a clear sunny morning. The club’s oldest member Clayt Ruppel took home first place honours with Bob Foxton second and Gerry Edwards third. Wayne Gordon was winner of the longest putt and Don Bone shot a round of 40 to capture low gross. The Thursday night men had 50 golfers hit the links on a cool but sunny evening. Dan McPherson was winner of the closest to the pin while Aart de Vos and James Elphick were longest putt winners. The hidden score winners were Dan McBurney, Brian Skinn, Andy Williams, Russ Danbrook and Warren Rich. Buff Kerr and Jay Marston shared low gross with rounds of 41. OUT OF BOUNDS NEWS Bob Foxton and Harry George have been busy clearing brush near the entrance and many of the ladies are busy looking after flower beds on the course. All these extra little jobs are a great asset to the appearance of our club and show the importance of good volunteers to a small club.
