After a slight delay and a return to
the drawing board last year, Huron
East Council approved the purchase
of a new tanker for the Grey Fire
Department.
Council approved the purchase of
a tanker from Fort Garry Fire Trucks
out of Winnipeg for $199,843
(excluding taxes). Council
authorized the total cost before taxes
to go up to $206,000 for various
customizations.
Huron East Fire Chief and CEMC
Marty Bedard said there were four
points that made the Fort Garry truck
more appealing than the other two
proposals received by the
municipality, despite being the most
expensive of the three.
After consulting with Grey Fire
Chief Gary Boyer, Bedard said the
extra compartment space was
important, in addition to the truck’s
heavier transmission. The truck
included a hard suction hose, that
would have cost extra on the other
trucks and there was also the option
to deduct $1,500 from the total
price if the chassis is paid for on
arrival at the Fort Garry plant in
Winnipeg.
Bedard says he expects the truck
to arrive at the Grey station in
November.
Boyer thanked council for having
the understanding to delay the
purchase of the truck until the
perfect truck for the job could be
procured.
“Thanks for the second chance,”
Boyer said to council. “This truck
will do the Grey boys a lot of
good.”
The other two offers were from
ResQTech in Woodstock for
$199,000 and from Metalfab from
New Brunswick at $192,100.

The number of working-age Canadians
per senior is decreasing, placing
additional pressure on the OAS program.
