Belgrave’s Knox United to hold two Easter services
Florence McArter greeted
worshippers and handed out the
service of worship on Palm Sunday,
April 1 at Knox United Church.
Beautiful flowers adorned the
sanctuary.
Steve Coultes went over the
announcements as printed in the
bulletin.
On April 3 the UCW will meet at
the home of Muriel Coultes at 2 p.m.
The official board meeting takes
place on Thursday, April 5 at 7 p.m.
in the church basement. On Friday,
April 6 there is a Good Friday
service at 11 a.m.
There are two services on Easter
Sunday. The sunrise service is at 7
a.m. in the church parking lot with a
breakfast to follow and the morning
worship service is at 11 a.m. On
Thursday, April 19 at 7 p.m. “Songs
of Faith” is at Knox United Church.
Anyone willing to perform should
contact John McIntosh at 519-887-
6412. Everyone is welcome.
Rev. Tom Murray welcomed the
congregation. Palm branches were
distributed and the congregation
waved them with the singing of a
hymn.
There are frequently asked
questions about church and aboutworship everyday such as baptismand confirmation, etc. None of thesequestions are silly questions – they
each deserve an informed response.
On Sunday, April 15 Knox United
Church, 22 Brandon Street,
Belgrave is hosting an Open House
from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. that will
endeavour to answer these questions
and more and provide you with the
information you need from your
community of faith. Everyone is
welcome to attend.
The introit selection sang by the
senior choir was verse 4 of “O Love
How Deep” accompanied by Ann
Clark. Sheila Nixon read the Lenten
candle liturgy. As Rev. Tom Murray
extinguished the candle the darknessand pain of illness and disease in theworld was acknowledged.“Glorious, is Thy Name” was the
chosen anthem sung by the senior
choir followed by the congregation
singing “Hosanna, Loud Hosanna”.
An “Earth Hour Poem” by Parrys
Raines was read by Katherine
Coultes. Communion was
administered by Rev. Tom Murray
and Ken Procter with the
congregation going to the front of
the sanctuary to partake in the bread
and wine (juice). The singing of “All
Glory, Laud and Honour” was
followed by the scripture readingsfrom Philippians 2: 5-11 and John12: 12-16.God’s word was entitled, “Are We
in the Running?” On Palm Sunday it
reminds us that Jesus was going to
Jerusalem riding on a donkey. When
the people saw Jesus coming they
began to shout with joy, “Hosanna!
Hosanna! Blessed is the King who
comes in the name of the Lord!”
Some people cut branches off the
palm trees, and laid the branches on
the road. Other people spread their
coats on the road. They all praised
God in loud voices for the wonderful
things Jesus had done.Jesus rode to the big city ofJerusalem and the crowds followedhim. The leaders of the people were
angry because the people did not
follow them anymore. They said
they must get rid of Jesus. Do you
dare to have a purpose that is firm
and to make it known far and wide?
Steve Coultes and Doug Walker
took up the offering. The closing
hymn, “Lift High the Cross”,
sending forth read responsively from
the bulletin and the singing of “Go
Now in Peace” concluded the
morning worship service.
