Public Hospital on Thursday,
March 22, 2012. He was 81 years
old.
He was active in the community as
a former councillor of the Township
of East Wawanosh, his long
association with St. Michael’s
Roman Catholic Church and St.
Michael’s Cemetery Board and his
participation in the annual Reunion
of the Huron Pioneer Thresher and
Hobby Association.
Maurice had been an important
part of the annual Reunion of the
Huron Pioneer Thresher and Hobby
Association for decades. His father
Simon was one of the Reunion’s
founding members. Maurice was
Simon’s only son.
He followed in his father’s
footsteps as an elected official
as well. Maurice spent several
years as a councillor in East
Wawanosh Township. Maurice
first served on East Wawanosh
Township Council in 1988 underReeve Ernest Snell and he continuedto serve for several years as acouncillor.
In 1956 Maurice partnered with
his father in a farming venture called
Simon P. Hallahan and Son. That
was the same year Maurice married
Mary Hicknell. The pair then took
up residence at the family’s home
farm.
In subsequent years alongside his
family Maurice operated Hallrice
Farms, a four-farm operation
totalling over 500 acres of land
including a dairy herd, beef cattle,
feeder hogs, laying hens and cash
crops.
In 1990 Maurice and his
family moved from the home
farm to Lot 38, Concession 5,
swapping residences with his
son Jim and his wife Karen
(Glousher).
Maurice was the beloved husband
of Mary and the dear father of
Joseph Hallahan of Wingham, Jim
(Karen) Hallahan of Belgrave,
Dennis (Julie-Ann) Hallahan of
RR3, Blyth, Maryanne (Bill)McCormick of Whitechurch andIrene Hallahan (Rob Deer) ofClinton.
Maurice was the loving
grandfather of Blaine, Jason, Tyler,
Jeff, Kyle, Becky, Connor, Jackson,
Lisa, Billy, Amanda and David. He
was the great-grandfather of
eight.
Maurice was the dear brother of
Rose Marie Dumais of Waterloo. He
was predeceased by his son Peter
Hallahan and his granddaughter
Tracy Plumsteel.
Visitation was held at SacredHeart Roman Catholic Church inWingham on Monday from 11 a.m.to 1 p.m. where the Mass of
Christian Burial was held at
1 p.m. Father K.P. Morrison
officiated the service. Interment is at
St. Michael’s Cemetery, Morris
Township.
Memorial Donations to the
Canadian Cancer Society would be
appreciated as expressions of
sympathy.

such a small amount to the project,
there was talk about tapping into
some of the money held by the
Brussels Community Trust.
Councillor David Blaney, however,
said that money has very specific
restrictions on it and it is not the
same as the pre-amalgamation
reserves held by the municipality.
Before the vote was taken,
MacLellan made it clear that the
gentlemen’s agreement would have
no jurisdiction over the vote and that
a simple majority, as in all regular
council decisions, would carry the
vote.
The vote was carried and the
project was approved to hopefully
begin later this year.
