The Saugeen Maitland Midget
AA Lightning beat the Sarnia Sting
4-2 on the weekend to tally their
50th win of the season and earn the
Lower Lakes West Division title.
The Lightning have gone
undefeated in division playoff
action sweeping Cambridge,
London and most recently Sarnia.
Saugeen will now advance to the
championship tournament next
weekend in Mississauga to face off
against the other three Lower Lakes
division winners.
In the Sarnia game, it was team
captain, Sara Gossell who scored
the game winner while Brittany
Butcher led the scoresheet with two
goals and an assist.
Also scoring for the Lightning
was Dollee Meigs while assists
went to Hannah Davidson (2), Kelly
Gribbons, Lindsay Dales and Meigs
(2). Picking up the win in net was
Shea Tiley.
Goaltenders, Tiley and Stephanie
Sluys and the Lightning defence
core of Georgia Ottewell, Lindsay
Dales, Kelly Garrow, Abbey
Gibson, Brittany Hymers and
Kailyn Soers continue to play solid
defensive hockey maintaining a
goals against average of 1.5 in the
six playoff games.
PeeWee Girls take
division consolation
The Blyth Brussels PeeWee Girls
team 2 won the Western Ontario
Athletics Association (WOAA)
White Division consolation title on
March 25 in Ayton.
As part of their year-end
tournament the girls lost 2-1 to the
Durham Huskies on March 23,
tied the Georgian Shores
Lighting 1-1 and triumphed over
Markdale 4-1 to take the
consolation prize.
The Blyth Brussels PeeWee Local
League team took the lead in their
playoff series against Listowel with
wins on March 20 and March 22.
The team started the series trailing
1-0 after a 3-2 loss in Listowel but
the home-and-home games last
week gave Blyth the boost they
needed with 2-1 and 2-0 wins.
The Blyth Brussels team also took
on Listowel on March 24 and were
scheduled to face them in the best-
of-5 series, if necessary, on March
27. Scores from these matches were
unavailable at press time.

March Madness continues for the
Saugeen Maitland Bantam AA
Lightning as they advanced to the
Final Four of the Lower Lakes

for March Break, taking the series
opener by a 5-3 score over London.

Terpstra with two, Ashlee Lawrence,
Neve VanPelt and Miranda Lant.
Lexi Smith, Avery Reeves, Maddie
Duncan, Ciara Lark, Nikki Zabel,

In game two of the Western
Division Final, the Lightning
exhibited perhaps their best team
game of the season, ending the
Devilettes season in a 3-0 shutout.
