The Huron-Perth Catholic District
School Board has developed a
“Blueprint” for 21st Century
teaching and learning. It describes
strategies to support and enhance
Catholic education in all of the
board’s Catholic schools. Their goal
is to create greater awareness of
social media and other forms of
electronic communication by
students, teachers and parents, in
order to ensure appropriate
educational use of these
technologies.
Cast your net is an initiative
involving students, teachers,
employees, and parents. It is taken
from the story in Matthew’s Gospel,
where Jesus said to his disciples
“Come, follow me, and I will send
you out to fish for people.” They
will devote the week following
Easter in all of the Catholic schools
to teaching and promoting:
Responsible and ethical use of
electronic communication to:
• Contribute to the common good
• Promote the dignity and welfare
of all
In addition to focused teaching
and learning on this topic, parents,
grandparents, board employees, and
members of the public are invited to
come out to an information session
to learn more about the various
types of electronic communication,
and what the Huron-Perth Catholic
District School Board is doing to
ensure appropriate, educational, and
responsible use in the Catholic
Schools:
In Perth County, Cast Your Net
will be held on Tuesday, April 10
from 7 to 9 p.m. at St. Michael
Catholic Secondary School in
Stratford. In Huron County it
will be held on Wednesday, April 11
from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at St. Anne’s
Catholic Secondary School in
Clinton.

Following Jesus does not
eliminate pain. You may miss a lot of
pain by following Him, but you will
still know pain and trials because we
live in a broken world.
God did not create the world to be
broken, the way we find it now. We
read in the Bible that when God
made the world He looked at it and
saw it was good. However, we have
allowed sin into the world and
suddenly everything is not good. Sin
corrupts. It has corrupted our
relationship with God. Sin corrupts
our relationships with others, sin has
corrupted our bodies and even our
earth for the Bible says even the
ground was cursed. As a result we
have disasters, disease, drought,
divorce and delinquency. It was our
choice, not God’s and as a result …
we have pain.
God does not eliminate pain but
the Bible teaches us that He will use
our pain to help others. In God’s
Word we read the Apostle Paul
saying this: “I pray that God our
Father and the Lord Jesus Christ will
be kind to you and will bless you
with peace! The Father is a merciful
God, who always gives us comfort.
He comforts us when we’re in
trouble, so that we can share that
same comfort with others in
trouble.” 2 Corinthians 1:2-4 (CEV).
So we will have pain but God can
carry us over to the other side of pain
to where we can find comfort and
peace. And once you begin to
experience recovery and renewal
and you begin to experience the
peace of God in your life, God says
I want you to pass it on to other
people. In fact, this is one of the
proofs that you have overcome pain
in your life.
Think about it. How do you know
when you’re recovered from a hurt?
How do you know when you’re
really over that big hurt in your life?
That betrayal? That rejection? That
abuse? How do you know when
you’re over that hurt from your
childhood? That hurt from your
marriage? How do you know when
you’re past it and you’re recovered?
It’s real simple. You begin to help
other people in that exact area. You
don’t waste the hurt.
There are people right now who
are where you were a year ago who
would benefit greatly by having
someone like you to walk with them
where you once walked so they can
get to where you are.
One of the myths is that you help
people through your strengths. You
don’t. You help people through your
weaknesses. It is our weaknesses
that help other people, not our
strengths. Your greatest ministry to
others will flow out to your pain.
Not out of your strengths, not out of
your talents, but out of the painful
experiences of your life.
Who can be more sympathetic to
somebody than somebody who has
already been through what that
person is going through right now?
Who can better help somebody
going through a bankruptcy than
somebody who says, “been there,
done that!” Who can better help
somebody experiencing the
heartbreak of rejection or divorce
than somebody who says, I
remember what that felt like – how
terrible that felt? Who can better
help somebody who’s been through
a miscarriage than somebody who
has been through miscarriage?
God can use the very thing that
you wish had never happened. God
says, “Yes, it happened. That’s never
going to change. But I can use it to
help other people if you are willing
to share your brokenness.”
