A rest area north of Blyth recently
acquired by North Huron Township
should look more like its namesake
soon and less like an abandoned
property.
The location, which is on the west
side of County Road 4, was in limbo
for several years as it was listed
Huron County property but records
for it could not be found.
Councillor Ray Hallahan
suggested during council’s March 5
meeting that, as North Huron had
recently been granted possession of
it, the park should be made more
hospitable.
He moved that council supply two
picnic tables, signage, a portable
toilet and sufficient garbage
receptacles for the area and that the
site be reopened in the spring of
2012.
Deputy-Reeve David Riach stated
that he would like to see trees
planted on the west side of the
park so “people can’t get in there
and hide.”Council approved the motion.***
Scaffolding on the sidewalk in
Blyth has caused some problems for
snow removal according to Public
Works Director Ralph Campbell.
He stated that the snow removal
vehicle that handles sidewalks in
Blyth put a hub out when trying to
get around it.
No one had approached Campbell
regarding the scaffolding, so it was
there without his permission, but he
was informed by North Huron staff
that it may have been done with
Chief Building Official Dave
Black’s permission.
Deputy-Reeve David Riach also
informed Campbell that the
storefront being renovated should be
completed soon as it is set to open in
April.

The flag pole in front of Blyth
Memorial Hall may be replaced
sooner rather than later according to
Public Works Director Ralph
Campbell.
During North Huron TownshipCouncil’s March 5 meeting,Councillor Ray Hallahan said that he
had received calls about the state of
flags both in Wingham and Blyth
and said they were “torn-up and
disrespectful.”
Campbell said that changing the
flag in Blyth is a problem because of
the lack of accessibility and the lack
of a vehicle that can reach it.
“We’re likely going to drop the
Blyth flag pole since the flag ripped
[during heavy winds] over the
[March 2-4 weekend],” he said. “It’s
very hard to replace a flag safely
there. We might just drop the pole
and put up a new one that we had
planned on erecting later in the
year.”

UPI Energy vehicles received an
exemption from weight restrictions
on North Huron roads during a
council meeting on March 5.
The vehicles, which are heavier
than the 5,000 kilograms allowed on
municipal roads, need to get to
homes to deliver heating oil.
Council agreed to up themaximum weight for UPI vehiclesto 7,5000 kilograms.
Other vehicles which have similar
rulings include milk trucks and feed
trucks.

The state of back roads in NorthHuron was addressed by publicworks director Ralph Campbell
during North Huron Township
Council’s March 5 meeting.

God, one another, and a hurting
world. As Neil Cole in his book
church 3.0 states: “Church is no
longer a place to go to, but a people
to belong to. Church is no longer an
event to be at but a family to be a
part of. Church is not a program to
reach out to the world, but a people
that bring the kingdom of God with
them into a lost world, with a
contagious spirit.”
On a global scale, God is speaking
simultaneously to his people and
calling them to a new and fresh
expression of his kingdom. As it
was in that first generation of
new Christians, every Christian
longs for the experience of
kingdom as described in the book of
Acts. These are dark days, and
darkness is when the light shines
brightest. We must make changes
ourselves if that light is to shine in
this world.
God speed your journey to your
future as the church that relates to
God’s creation. Amen.
See the light through
your darkest days
