It rained on her parade and the
tornado stole her thunder, but that all
just made August 20, 2011 even
more memorable for Jessica
Pennington at her wedding to Zach
Fielder.
The bride is the daughter of Mary
and Earl Pennington of Goderich
and the groom, the son of Elaine and
Dale Fielder of Port Albert.
The couple created a unique
wedding on their farm on the Nile
Rd north of Goderich. The ceremony
took place beside the creek on a
walking bridge built by the bride's
father for the couple as a wedding
present. Guests were transported
from a parking lot to the wedding
site in golf carts.
The theme of the wedding was
nature, the setting resplendent in
greens and browns and floral
decorations grown and prepared
by a family friend of Jessica’s
parents.
The bride and her bridesmaids
arrived at the ceremony, with a
rumble in the air as they appeared
on ATVs. The bride’s attendants
carried through the nature theme
wearing brown dresses.
Maid of honour was Lyndi
Meriam. Bridesmaids were Kendra
Scholl, Nicole Johnston, Jen Blake
and Julie Boak.
The groom and ushers wore
cowboy hats, boots, dark blue jeans,
mint green shirts and brown vests.
The groom's best man was Mike Van
Diepenbeek.
Ushers were John Padfield, Pat
Boucher, Matt Fielder and Rob
Boak.
The ring bearer was the couple’s
miniature horse “Spirit”, who was
walked down the aisle with a little
pillow on its back with the help of an
usher. Spirit had been a Valentine’s
gift from Zach to Jessica five years
previously.
Sally Walker officiated at the
ceremony.
The ceremony started off with the
lighting of a memory candle on a
table with pictures of people
dear to their hearts that had passed
away.
The rain stopped long enough for
their ceremony to almost get
finished and it started to drizzle and
then it poured, preventing the guests
from being able to roam the farm and
see all the renovations the couple
had worked endless hours to
complete. The family tradition
continues as Zach had purchased
the farm from his maternal
grandpa.
A school bus belonging to one of
the ushers was decorated for the
wedding party’s escape from the rain
to take wedding pictures.
The band “Decades” entertained at
the reception, held in a huge tent
with a dance floor and raised stages
for the band and head table. To keep
the dance floor full, a disco-like
setting was created with revolving
coloured lights.
In keeping with the “nature”
theme, seating assignment was on
leaves hanging from tree branches,
and each person’s name was stamped
on a tiny log at their plate. The table
centrepieces were birch bark-
covered vases filled with Baby’s
Breath.
The rain came and went
throughout the event and as the song
says “The thunder rolled”, but it
could not dampen the enthusiasm
of the guests and the wedding
party.
The couple went on a honeymoon
to The Grand Ole Opery in
Nashville, Tennessee.
