MEETING NOTICE MUNICIPALITY OF MORRIS-TURNBERRY The upcoming Council and Committee meetings for the Municipality of Morris-Turnberry will be held: Thursday February 23 at 7:00 pm Budget Meeting Tuesday March 6 at 7:30 pm Regular Council Meeting Tuesday March 20 at 7:30 pm Regular Council Meeting We hope everyone enjoyed a wonderful Family Day. The weather was certainly good. The spring-like weather continues and it is great. The freezing rain that caused the ice for Thursday morning was short- lived and then the fog later that day was quite intense for awhile. We were surprised Saturday morning by the amount of snow that fell in the night. A wet, heavy, slippery snow and hopefully, children had the chance to get out and play in the snow. It was perfect snow for making snowmen. I would prefer the wet snow to the mud that covered many snowsuits from the school playground on Friday afternoon. Our condolences to the Wheeler family on the passing of Dolores Wheeler. She will be missed by her sons Dale, Murray, Scott, Todd and Dean and their families. Dolores was not a person I knew very well, but a person I had heard about beginning back in the 1960s. I was good friends with her sister in Mitchell and was always hearing stories about the Dale girls. Her sisters Elaine and Barb would stop by the shop with Dolores when they came to Brussels to visit with her. Our sympathy to the Dale and Wheeler families. Returning from a week’s vacation is Rob and Amanda McClure. They spent a week in the Dominican Republic in the Punta Cana area. They travelled with Greg and Erin McGrath. They stayed at the Bahai Principe Resort and Rob reports it was too big. The resort held 5,000 folks and carts were required to go from place to place. The foursome went on a few excursions including swimming with the sting rays and sharks, deep sea fishing and catching maya maya fish. They went on a catamaran trip to an island and had an awesome time. They had great weather and a great time. Curling has taken up my time this past week. I was asked by a trio of Seaforth ladies to skip a team at the Valentine’s bonspiel in Mitchell last Thursday. I played with Linda Kistner, an old high school friend, Jan Hawley, our Huron East Economic Development Officer and Carolanne Doig of the Seaforth Golf Course. The three ladies curl out of the Seaforth Curling Club and needed a fourth who could skip. We had a good day in Mitchell and ended up in fourth place out of ten teams. It was a good day. A foursome of Brussels men also went to Mitchell to curl on Thursday in the men’s side of the draw. The team of Steve Steiss, Steve Knight, Carman Bernard and Bob Alexander also had a good day and came home with fourth prize. Our condolences to Rita Rice Bowers, husband Steve and familyon the passing of her mother, HelenRice. She was from Proton Township and services were held in Mount Forest. Our sympathies are extended to the family. The Cranbrook dart club had 16 players out for the night of fun on Feb. 15. They had a good night with many players hitting the high scores but kudos go to Gayle Speiran with 127 and George Zwep hitting 140. It was a good night for all. There were quite a few local folks curling on the weekend in Seaforth. It was the annual men’s speil with McGavin’s, Townsend Tire, Hensall Co-op– Seaforth Division and Freeze King as sponsors. They had 12 teams participating in two draws. Scott McDonald with team members Brian Dolmage, Rob McClure and Greg Medd finished third on the early draw. The second draw had locals Paul Dodds skipping the first place team. Bob Alexander was a team member of the second place team. The fourth-place team had Steve and Scott Dolmage as team members. The fifth-place team had Murray Johnston, Paul Johnston and Joe Nicholson as teammates. The McDonalds – Rick, Jo-Ann and LeeAnn along with Steve Knight finished in sixth place. It was a great day and a lot of fun. Welcome home for a visit to Joanne (Knight) Black. She is here from St. John, New Brunswick. Coming home for a visit is always great but special reasons for coming are even better. It was birthday time for good old dad, Jack Knight. He celebrated his 80th birthday this past week. He invited many of the church friends to lunch at JR’s on Sunday following church in Cranbrook. Unknown to Jack, a surprise get- together was held in his honour at their son Brad and Christie Knight’s home. Jack and Donna’s daughter Joanne, son Steve and wife Marni and granddaughter Janine were present. Many of Jack’s brothers and sisters were in attendance including Leslie, Murray, Ken, Harold, Helen and Dorothy and many of their spouses. Unable to attend was brother Jim and his wife Dona as they were away seeing Brianne in the U.S. for the weekend. They enjoyed a wonderful meal and a good visit with each other. Joanne returned to St. John, New Brunswick on Monday. Happy Birthday Jack! The landscape around the area has changed over the last week. The house on the corner of CranbrookRd. and Brussels Line disappearedin a matter of a week. The new barn on the Ringgenberg farm is progressing nicely with the steel already on the roof. The old trees on the old corner farm of North Line and Canada Company Rd. have been taken down and are being cleaned up. Changes everywhere you look. Celebrating birthdays this past week include Murray Houston, Phil Blake, Monica McNichol, Brian Dolmage, Shawna Terpstra, Helen Brenie, Steve Blake, Kathy Clark, Tyler Williamson, Steve Knight, Joel Dalton, Kevin McNaughton, Rachel Sutcliffe, Bruce McDonald and Tamara Williamson. Happy birthday to all. By Jo-Ann McDonald Call 887-6570 PEOPLE AROUNDWALTON NEWS FROM WALTON Please join us for an evening of open discussion of your experiences as patients and families of the HPHA.
