On Friday, Feb. 17, the ABC
Women’s Ministry of Auburn, Blyth
and Clinton Missionary Churches
celebrate their 10th anniversary of
the “Faith-in-Song” concert, once
again presenting an enjoyable
evening of Christian music for all
ages.
Faith-in-song (which began on
Feb. 7, 2003) came about as the
result of a group of friends
expressing their desire to see a
Christian concert being held in the
Blyth community. The idea was
presented to the newly-formed
“ABC Women’s Ministry” of
Auburn, Blyth and Clinton
Missionary Churches, and as they
say “the rest is history”.
The first concert featured Karl
Berg (Goderich), Tes Burgsma
(Dungannon), Deb Siertsema and
Darlene VanderVeen (Blyth), Living
Water Christian Fellowship and
North Huron Praise Band (Blyth and
Wingham) and the Romijin Family
(Clinton).
In the years since, the concerts
have included many professional
Gospel groups from all across
Ontario as well as local musicians.
Originally the concerts were held
at Blyth Memorial Hall. More
recently, thanks to the generosity of
the folks at the Blyth Christian
Reformed Church the concerts are
now held in their beautiful Historic
Church.
For the 10th anniversary, the
concert will once again feature local
talent including “thatotherchoir”
from Clinton, Goderich area, and
John DeJager, a tenor from
Goderich.
The “thatotherchoir”, which is
directed by Louise Dockstader of
Goderich, has performed at church

Most of the classes are settling in
and getting around to the same
routines. Teachers are finishing up
reports as they will be sent home
soon. All of the students are
enjoying what they are working on
and learning.
The Grade 1/2 class is enjoying its
study of 3-D shapes. The class
kicked off the unit by combining two
3-D shapes to make an ice cream
treat. Can you guess? It was an ice
cream cone – a cone on the bottom
and a sphere of ice cream on top.
Students also made cone party
hats by cutting large 2-D shaped
semi-circles and rolling into the
cone shape. Students examined the
cube by building a gingerbread
house. Using smarties to decorate
the cube house give students an
opportunity to count how many
smarties in each student box, to sort,
to record and to represent individual It is the same hand!

“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God,
to those who are the called according to His purpose.” Romans 8:28
Are you a distressed believer? Is your heart... pressed down with sickness, tried with
disappointments, overburdened with cares?
To you I say, “Behold the cross of Christ!”Think whose hand it is that chastens you;
think whose hand is measuring to you the ‘cup of bitterness’ which you are now
drinking. It is the hand of Him who was crucified! It is the same hand which, in love
to your soul, was nailed to the accursed tree! Surely that thought should comfort and
hearten you. Surely you should say to yourself, “My crucified Savior will never lay
upon me anything that is not for my good. There is a needs be. It must be well.”

Man of the hour
It was Earl Salter who had the honours of both piping in the
haggis and officially starting the festivities Saturday night at
the Blyth East Side Dance Studio for Robbie Burns Night,
an annual celebration of the Scottish poet and all things
Scottish. The night included poems, songs and Scottish
dancing. (Vicky Bremner photo)
Making friends is importantGreeting worshippers at BlythUnited Church on Sunday, Feb. 5were Doug and Barb Howson.Ushering were Hope Button, RobMason and Terry Richmond. Floyd
Herman was music director. Caden
Mason lit the candles at the front of
the church.
Rev. Clark welcomed everyone to
church on a very spring-like Sunday.
He drew everyone’s attention to the
announcements printed in the
bulletin with special mention that
the ladies were making beef pies on
Wednesday, Feb. 22, turkey pies on
March 7 and beef again on March 21and this will be the last until the endof April. They also make fruit piesall year long. Call JoanneMacDonald if you wish to order. He
also reminded people that the annual
meeting will be held on Feb. 19 after
church following the luncheon.
The call to worship was the
singing of “Come All You People”
followed by the prayer of approach.
The first hymn was “He Came
Singing Love.” The children were
asked to come to the front for their
story time. Rev. Clark asked them if
they knew what he had in his hand.He passed it around to the children. Some thought it was a rock, it wasn’theavy. He finally showed them thatit was a whistle. We are like the
whistle. We don’t know what it is
until we get to know it. People are
like this, we don’t know them unless
we try to get to know them. We need
to make friends and when we do we
find things out about ourselves.
The children said a prayer along
with the congregation. Reid Button
