Valentine’s Luncheon
Open House at schoolThe school council and staff atBrussels Public School wanted to
commemorate the history of the
school before the last graduating class
walked out its doors in June this year.
Secretary and council member
Diana Dolmage said that the Brussels
Public School Open House, set to be
held on Saturday, June 16 this year,
will provide a great opportunity for
people to look back on the history of
the school.
The reunion will run from 3 p.m. to
7 p.m. and visitors will be able to
meet, or reconnect with past
classmates and staff and see artifacts
from the history of the school.
“Each classroom will be set up to
show a specific decade,” Dolmage
said. “It will be set up with photos,
music, articles and items from that
period.”
Dolmage said that memorabilia will
be on display both from Brussels
Public School and from the local
Continuation School prior to that. Events include activities forchildren, an alumni baseball game andBy Denny ScottThe Citizen

At the Branch
Lack of new members, lack of
patronage discussed by Legions
By Jo-Ann McDonald
It was a quiet week for activities
at the Brussels Legion Branch.
President Deb Caan attended the
Spring Council and Presidents’
meeting in Mitchell on Monday
evening. She heard reports from
many of the presidents all reflecting
on some of the many problems
Branches are experiencing. They
include the lack of new members
and aging membership and the lack
of patronage. The list of upcoming
meetings was given to all attending.
The Cadets met on Tuesday
evening and urged people to drop
off popcans and returnable bottles
for their fundraising efforts.
Comrade Elaine Nichol is still in
an Oakville Hospital and hopefully
will be able to move to Murray’s
home in a couple of weeks.
The Thursday night darts had a
small crowd again so singles were
played. Winners were: first, Sandra
Josling; second, Gord Jacklin; high,
Gord, 121 and Wayne Smith, 105.
Darts are Thursday at 8 p.m.
Everyone is welcome.
The Friday night supper was ham
and scalloped potatoes and was
enjoyed by over 35 folks. This week
is roast pork. Helping prepare the
supper are Deb Caan, Mary
Bradshaw and Jo-Ann McDonald
with Helen Dobson providing the
delicious desserts.
There were eight Comrades who
travelled to Kincardine to
participate in Zone euchre on
Saturday. They were picked up by a
bus that began its journey in
Mitchell with Comrades from the
Mitchell Branch, stopped in
Seaforth and picked up Seaforth
teams and then to Brussels to pick
up our two teams.
Comrades representing Brussels
were: team one, Lloyd Glanville,
Norm Dobson, Bush Whittard and
Eric Ross and team two, Jim Brown,
Sandra Josling, Daisy Wong and
Rick McDonald. The teams had a
lot of fun and team one captured
fourth place for the day and will
advance to District play.
