PeeWee team drops
first playoff game
The first round of the Ontario
Minor Hockey Association
(OMHA) playoffs started this past
Wednesday in Blyth for the PeeWee
AE team when the Lambton Shores
(Thedford/Forest) Predators came to
town.
With no other “C” division
PeeWee AE teams in the WOAA
district the Blyth Brussels Peewee
AE players started their opening
round of playoffs in the OMHA
against a team from the Shamrock
loop. Lambton Shores came to Blyth
Wednesday night to open the series.
The opening period started with
the squad on their heels somewhat,
but it didn’t take long turning the
tide and putting the pressure on their
opponents.
Blyth Brussels goaltender Jeremy
Wilts and the opposing goaltender
made some great saves to keep the
first scoreless.
Blyth Brussels would open the
scoring a minute into the second
when Carson Richmond would jam
in the puck with assists going to
Jared Shearer and Craig Raynard.
The AE team took back-to-back
penalties three minutes apart both
resulting in Predator powerplay
goals to give their opponents a 2-1
lead.
It stayed a one-goal game until
five minutes were left in the third
when Lambton Shores would find
the loose puck in the scrum in front
of Wilts and take a 3-1 lead. In a last
ditch effort, Blyth Brussels pulled
their goalie for the extra attacker, but
the opponents managed to
find the empty net for a 4-1 final
score.
The boys travelled to Thedford on
Tuesday, Jan. 24 to face the
Predators and then faced off against
Milverton on Wed. Jan. 25 in
Western Ontario Athletics
Association (WOAA) round robin
action. Scores were not available for
these games at press time.
The Blyth Brussels team will
travel back to Thedford on Sunday,
Jan. 29 at 2 p.m. for game three of
the OMHA playdowns.
Tykes earn 3 wins in tournament
The Blyth Brusslels Tyke 1 team
travelled to Kurtsville over the
weekend to participate in a
tournament and came away with
three wins.
The team trumped Wingham,
Listowel and Woolwich to take top
honours at the tournament.
The Blyth Brussels squad next
takes to the ice against the Lucknow
Sepoys in Lucknow on Jan. 28 at 10
a.m.
Their next home game is at 10 a.m.
on Feb. 11 at the Brussels, Morris
and Grey Community Centre.
