Both are graduates of Exeter H.S. Farmers Ask for Christmas Seal Fund Launched The Christmas Seal campaign has been, launched .in Exeter dis trict and throughout the County of Huron. The Huron County Council made a grant of one thousand dol lars toward this fund. The mini mum objective set for 'Huron is ,$6,OOo and the Executive of the growers at this- meeting. "District^Tuberculosis Association is aiming No. 2 includes the counties ofTat $10,000. Town and Township Huron, Lambton and Kent and all growers of canning peas and corn are under the Tarin Products Con trol Act. ■ At the Exeter meeting for Huron County iheld* on November 141S1, substantial • increases in the con tract " prices for peas, corn an.d string beans were asked for by the growers. These requests which were $6o per ton for peas, $‘20 pen ton for white corn, $25 per ton for yellow corn, and $100 per ton fox string be^n^tvere passed, on to district ‘M&htiri^’s^here it was gen erally agreed that these asking prices were not out of line with present day costs of production. Terms of contract more favorable to the grower were asked for. A motion to have siring -beans which I were dropped from the scheme, re instated, was sent in to the Local or Negotiating Board. Howell, of Goderich, Who is at present teaching in Toronto, has accepted a position on the Exeter H.S, staff, her duties to commence with the new year* Town and Township councils will be asked to supple ment the amounts generously con tributed by individual donors. Christmas seals have been sent out to those who in the past have made contributions to the fund and may ■be procured from the local -branch •of the Bank of Montreal. The 'Provincial Department of Health, Toronto, in co-operation with .Queen Alexandra Sanatorium* London, «is organizing a -determined .five year campaign to control rind ' eliminate tuberculosis , in Ontario.. [Under this -plan all residents of;. Exeter and Huron county Will bfe' X-rayed during the years 19 47' and 1948 to discover any presently un known cases of tuberculosis, or sources of infection.' The cost of these X-rays will be defrayed by money raised in the Christmas Seal campaign, and will be absolutely free to the individual. If the cost of these clinics is to be met Exeter and district will need to raise more than double the, amount contribut ed -during the 19 45 campaign. Rev. W. A. Dances in Exeter To be Policed The regular meeting of the Municipal Council of the Village of Exeter was held in the Town Hall Monday, December 2, with Reeve I Tuckey and Councillors Allison Caldwell, Dignan and Hern present The minutes of the last regular meeting of November 18, 1940, were read and adopted on the mo tion of Councillors Hern and Dig- nan. Mr. Pearce, Tax-Collector, waited on the Council in regard to dispos al of tax money over week-end. The matter was left in the hands oif the Reeve Mr. Pearce addressed the Council on behalf of the Temperance Fed eration asking that a Special Con stable be appointed to attend dances and other like entertain ments for the purpose of preventing drinking and rowdiness. .Mr. Pearce said that the Legion and the Arena Board had signified their willing ness. to co-operate with the Council in keeping dances arid other gather ings orderly. It was moved and seconded by Councillors Caldwell and Dignan-that this Council prom ise full co-operation in keeping dances and other gatherings in this Village orderly and that we instruct our constables to make a drive clean up objectionable conduct public gatherings. Exeter Public Utilities Commission Ted Pooley Again Legion President In the final meeting of the year Monday night the Exeter-Hensall branch of the Canadian ^Legion re elected Comrade Ted Pooley for his sixth term of office, While five other Comrades, Cochrane, Hendry, Bell, McArthur and Dinney, were also nominated all withdrew in fa vor of Comrade Pooley who has de voted much time and interest in the work of the Legion. 1st viee-pres. for |1>947 will be Comrade Hendry; 2nd vice-president, Coinrhde Brown of Hensail and Sgt.-at-Arms, Com rade Sims. On the executive com mittee will be Comrades Bell,, Da vis, Knight, Austland from Exe ter and Beer, McNaughton, Bon- thron and McArthur from Hensall. Building Extension | After a great deal of discussion and investigation during the past few months regarding extension of the present building or erecting new quarters plans now centre around extending the present building with a rifle range and kitchen in a, baseT ment beneath a section to contain four new bowling alleys. Above this a recreational room for the use of the members is to be added onto the present space. A commit tee was appointed to estimate the cost before further progress Is made. A room foi* Hensall mem bers in their own village was also proposed and will be Investigated. In co-operation with the Lions Club and Chamber of Commerce the Legion will sponsor the Christ mas entertainment for the young folk and the special lighting for the business section. Installed at O.E.S. Subsequent to the repast during which the spir it of good -comradeship and mirth prevailed, toast® were proposed to the King by Mr. E. J. Green; to 'the Grand Chapter by Mr* W. D, San ders; to District No. 5 by Mrs. W. D. Sanders; to Exeter Chapter by Mr, B. W. F. Beavers, and to the Worthy Matron and Worthy Patron, Elect by Mrs, J, Fengusdn. The impressive installation cere mony was performed in ri setting of Queen’s blue and silver, a large blue star upon which were the initials of the worthy matron in* silver, hung in the East; ferns, candles and baskets of mujns com pleted the attractive setting.
