A hard-earned victory
The Blyth Brussels Novice Rep team prevailed in Lucknow on the weekend, working hard and
coming out on top of the Jan. 14 tournament to the north, finishing strong with a 7-1 victory
over Drayton to clinch the “A” division title. (Photo submitted)
Midget Girls edge
out Mildmay 2-1
The Blyth Brussels Midget Girls
hosted the Mildmay Carrick Midget
Girls on Monday, Jan. 9 in Blyth and
came away with a 2-1 win.
The game was fast paced with
some great skating from the players.
Plenty of shots were taken which
gave both goalies a good workout.
Blyth Brussels started the scoring
for the night with the first goal of the
game with Lauren McNichol
scoring a shorthanded goal near the
end of the first period.
Halfway through the second
period Heidi Raynard scored a goal
that was assisted by Tori Kellington.
The Mildmay team finally put one
on the scoreboard in the last period
but it wouldn’t be enough as Blyth
Brussels hung on to win 2-1.
The girls played a great game and
are looking forward to hearing how
the playdowns are going to pan out
for them.
The Blyth Brussels Midget Girls
team also saw action on Monday,
Jan. 16 in Blyth against the
Lucknow Sepoys but a final score
was unavailable at press time.
They next take to the ice in Blyth
against the Mildmay Monarchs on
Jan. 23. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m.
Atoms double Sailors
The Blyth Brussels Atom AE team
travelled to Goderich on Jan. 14 to
take on the Sailors and came away
with a 4-2 victory.
The first period saw the puck
going end to end with many scoring
opportunities for both teams. Cole
Zwep made many great saves in net
for Blyth Brussels along with strong
defence from Ryan Jacklin, Kesler
Jardin, Nick McArter and Lucas
Townsend.
Goderich was able to get one past
and score with four minutes
remaining in the period. Myles
Johnston scored less than
two minutes later assisted by
Lucas Townsend to tie the game
1-1.
The second period again saw
plenty of back and forth action and a
lot of scoring chances but it was not
until one minute left in the period
that Wade Machan score unassisted.
Goderich scored in the third
period to tie the game. Nathan
Brown scored to give Blyth Brussels
the lead, assisted by Tanner Boven
and four minutes later Johnston
netted another goal, assisted by
Nathan Brown to end the game with
a 4-2 win. Connor Brooks played a
very strong game as the affiliated
player for the team.
The Blyth Brussels Atom AE
squad was glad to see Ryan Jacklin
back on the ice recovered from his
broken wrist. Jacklin will be able to
help the team as they take on an
undetermined challenger on Jan. 21
at the Blyth and District Community
Centre at 11:30 a.m.

OUT OF THE HACK NEWS

has had a good impact at the
Wingham Curling Club.
The curlers’ playing conditions
have vastly improved with the more
comfortable temperature and keener
ice than the club has enjoyed for
years.
