SportsMidget Lightning win Annual
Mississauga Christmas Classic
The Saugeen Maitland Midget AA
Lightning went undefeated in six
games to win their third tournament
of the year, winning gold at the 31st
Annual Mississauga Christmas
Classic last week.
The Lightning went 2-0-1 in
round-robin play with a 4-0 win
against Oakville (Team 1295), 2-0
victory against Mississauga (Team
715) and a 3-3 tie with Toronto
Leaside. Saugeen squeaked out a 3-
2 shootout win against Oakville
(Team 1295) in the quarterfinals
followed by a tight 1-0 overtime win
against the Mississauga Chiefs
(Team 755) in the semi-finals. The
Lightning then picked up the gold
medals when they skated away with
a 2-0 win in the finals against
Oakville (Team 1344).
Milverton’s Harley Westman
scored the game winner in the
championship game while Ripley’s
Laura Irwin continued her torrid
goal scoring spree picking up the
shootout winner in the quarterfinal
game and also the overtime winner
in the semi-final match.
Owen Sound’s Dollee Meigs led
the team with four goals while
Hannah Davidson chipped in three
followed by Georgia Ottewell,
Stacie Vink, Laura Irwin with a pair
of goals while single goals went to
Brittany Butcher and Harley
Westman.
Chatsworth’s Brittany Butcher
had a great tournament picking up
four assists including a spectacular
assist on the game winner in the
semi-final game. Also picking up
assists were Laura Irwin (3),
Lindsay Dales (3), Hannah

team doubles
Sailors
On Dec. 29 the Blyth Brussels
Bantam AE squad travelled to
Goderich to take on the Sailors and
posted a 12-6 win over the home
team.
The home team was taken off
guard when Myles Johnston took
the puck off the faceoff and scored
10 seconds into the first period
unassisted.
Twenty seconds later Tanner
Boven netted his own marker
assisted by Johnston.
Johnston would continue his hot
streak scoring three more goals in
the first period. Assists on
Johnston’s more-than-a-hattrick
went to Boven (2), Reece Sparling
and Cole Zwep.
Tyler Drennan came out firing in
the second, hitting the back of the
net with an assist from Lucas
Townsend. Ryan McMichael scored
two goals in the second period and
Johnston scored his fifth of the
game. Assisting these goals were
Blake Porter (2), Johnston, and
Zwep.
Drennan opened the floodgates
by scoring in the third, period
assisted by Porter.
Porter scored assisted by
Townsend followed by McMichael
notching his third to earn a hattrick
assisted by Machan to end the game
with a score of 12-6.
Previously the team took to the
ice against the Listowel Cyclones
on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, and lost
4-0 and beat the Goderich Sailors
on Dec. 17 3-2.
The team wishes Ryan Jacklin as
speedy recovery with his broken
arm.
The Bantam AE team took on the
Sailors against at the Blyth and
District Community Centre on Jan.
2, however a score was unavailable
at press time.
Next the team takes on Goderich
at the Goderich and District
Community Centre, also known
as the old arena, on Jan. 14 at
5 p.m.
