Public meetings tobe held for line
Three public meetings will be held
by Stantec Consulting and St.
Columban Energy LP, including one
in Brussels, regarding a
transmission line set to run through
the area.
Meetings will be held at the
Brussels, Morris and Grey
Community Centre on Jan. 26 from
6 p.m. to 9 p.m., in Wingham at the
Knights of Columbus Centre from 1p.m. to 4 p.m. on Jan. 26 and in
Gorrie at the Howick Community
Centre from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Jan.
25.
The current proposal falls in line
with the 15-turbine development for
the St. Columban area, and a
transmission line that is proposed to
run from St. Columban north
through Huron East, east of Brussels
and then through Morris-Turnberry
into Howick.

Happy New Year! A clean slate is
ready and waiting for us to fill up
with all the details, names and dates
that come with living. Oh what fun.
As I write this, I’m humming the
tune to “The 12 days of Christmas”,
trying to figure out what the gift of
the ninth day was. Of course I can’t
find the words anywhere but I think
we have left the drummers
drumming, the ladies dancing,
maids a milking and the lords a
leaping. It’s one of those songs that
gets into your head. The 12 days of
Christmas were set to keep the
Roman calendar straight with the
earth and lunar cycles. Makes you
feel young doesn’t it?
Families of all shapes and sizes,
gathered in homes, churches, halls
and restaurants to celebrate the love
they share. That’s the best part of
this Christmas time, connecting to
acknowledge the importance of
family and friends in our daily lives.
All studies and surveys ever done
find the same thing, we need to feel
the connection to another human
being. Often words are not spoken
of the warmth, the trust, the respect
and the appreciation we feel for
another. All these feelings get
lumped under the name of love and
it’s this we celebrate. For it’s love
that makes us stronger, happier and
healthier, but you already knew that.
The New Year’s Levee was a
roaring success. Bob Richmond and
Don McNeil had every right to smile
as their volunteers did a great job of
entertaining a full auditorium of
folks on Sunday afternoon. As co-
chairs of the 140th celebrations that
start on July 27, details are coming
in and looking good. Brochures
were available so that you can invite
your friends, even better call Mark
Barbour and he’ll see they get a
proper notice.
The cowboy theme was evident in
all the garb worn, from very old and
tattered duds to sparkly glam with a
few guns and holsters as well. The
cowboy food available for all hit the
spot. Hats, scarves and bows were
available to set the mood.
The 10 Most Wanted time proved
quite entertaining with Kevin
McArter thinking he could trade his
auctioneer papers to the court clerk.
The judges Cardiff, McGavin and
Mitchell were of another opinion, I
think. The sherriff Nichol and
deputies Prior and Pennington did a
fine job of rounding up the accused.
The cases of questionable public
behaviour brought before the judges
were clear but soon got quite
muddied as explanations were
heard. Bail money was accepted
when innocent pleas were not. It
was a lot of fun both in and out of
jail.
A great way to start the new year
was to see John Rutledge’s drawing
of the library for 2012, set up at the
levee. Wow! Our library will remain
a place of pride, thanks Huron East.
The blood donor clinic on Dec. 28
was extremely well attended. I have
never seen that many people waiting
to give the gift of ife, good for every
one of you. So many people will be
helped by your gift of time and
blood.
The school break continues so
have a good time with the grandkids,
lots of neat things to do and see. It’s
good to get time away from their
parents.
Enjoy the snow, it’s finally
here.
Bye now, Betty G.W.

A NOTE FROM BETTY
At the Branch
Friday supper returns
By Jo-Ann McDonald
We hope everyone has enjoyed a
wonderful Christmas break and will
have a great 2012 ahead.
The Branch was very quiet over
the holidays. The Thursday night
darts held Dec. 22 had 12 players
taking aim at the boards.
Winners were: first, Kaye Smith
and Glenn Zehr; second, Sheron
Stadelmann and Sandra Josling.
They played Christmas dart games
including We Three Kings, Rock
Around the Jingle Clock and
Mistletoe. They enjoyed a
delicious array of snacks during the
evening.
There were 10 darters on hand to
play Dec. 29 and finish up 2011
with some fun. Winners were: first,
John Stadelmann, Sharon Robbins
and Sheron Stadelmann; second,
Glenn Zehr and Marlene Rutledge;
third skunk of the season, Gord
Jacklin, Greta Zehr and Sandra
Josling; high, Bush Whittard, 72.
There were a few Comrades under
the weather over the Christmas
season and we hope they are all
feeling better.
Get-well wishes go to
Helen Dobson, Elaine Nichol,
Clarence Bishop and Howard
Hackwell.
Comrades who have not paid their
membership for 2012 are
encouraged to do so as soon as
possible. There are about 35
members who haven’t paid and your
dues can be sent to the Branch at
Box 128, Brussels. Chairman Greg
would appreciate your quick
response.
The Friday night supper returns
after a couple of week’s holidays.
This week will be meatballs and
rice.

Armstrong followed by everyone
participating in a program about
presenting gifts of hospitality,
friendship, sharing, laughter, music,
