THS TIMSS^ADVOCATE, EXETER, ONTARIO, THURSDAY MORNING, APRIL 29th, 1948 £*age 7 ■Couple Honored On Thursday evening, April 22 about thirty young people of the Pentecostal Assembly gath ered at the home of Mr. and Mrs Edgar Ctidmore in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Garfield Thomp son who were married recently. Choruses and contests were con ducted after which Mrs. Swei- gard read the address and Eileen and Harold Kenderiek presented the gift. Mr. Thompn non gave a fitting reply. The remainder of the evening was spent in a social time and lunch was served. Everyone wished Mr. and Mrs. Thompson much happiness. We Sell You a Fit in Our Private Truss Room Thames Road Mission Band The regular monthly meering of the Mission Band met during church hour on Sunday morning with the leaders, Jean Cann and Doris Duncan in charge. The meeting opened with the presi dent, Lexie Lostell in the chair Hymn 461 was sung after which, all repeated the Mission Band Purpose. Roll call was answered by naming a spring flower. The minutes of the last meeting were read and adopted. Business was discussed. Rosemary pass- more was chosen for program convenor for next meeting. The roil call next month is to be answered by your favourite game. Hymn 4 26 was sung and Barbara Allison took charge of the following program: reading by Jane Morgan, reading by Barry Jeffrey and an intsru- mental by Mildred Ballantyne. Jean Caun took the topic. He had been living in retirement. He had conducted general stores at Mount Pleasant, Kirkton, Wood ham, ,Winchelsea and Hesson. His wife, the former Mary Grant, predeceased him. Mr. Gerald Cluff, of Toronto, spent the week-end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Cluff. Miss Kay South, R.N., of Guelph, spent the week-end with her cousin, Mrs. Truman Tufts. Mr. Alvin Harding, of Petro lia, spent the week-end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Harding. Miss Marian Copeland has joined the staff of the Public Utilities, of Exeter. At the church Sunday School session this . past Sunday, Miss Florence Kirk, of Woodham, I who attended the Temperance Convention which was held in Toronto April 1st and 2nd, gave a wonderful temperance report. Florence gave a brief summary of ail the addresses emphasizing,, the need for stressing temper ance activities. Trousseau Tea A large number attended the trousseau tea on Friday, April 16th, given by Mrs. Arlow Cope land in honor of her oldest daughter, Lorene, a bride of last week. Shower On Wednesday. April 14 th, Miss Lorene Copeland, bride of last week, was pleasantly sur prised at the home of Mrs. Geo. Allen, when the neighbours pre Flynn and Samson McFalls, of Exeter, Lome Hicks, George Baynham, Clarence Culbert and Fred Bowden. Friends from London attending the funeral were Mrs. C. O’Brien and Mr: Cyril Hennessey, Mrs. H. Mc Falls, Mrs. C. Hodgins and her daughter, Mrs. Beer and Mrs. E. Simpson. seated her with a miscellaneous shower. A mock wedding was performed which caused much laughter. Lorene made a fitting reply and invited ail to her trousseau on Friday. Following a social time, refreshment were served. On Monday night, April 19th, Lorene’s Sunday School class gathered at her home and presented her with some lovely gran ite ware. Hodgson .— Copeland A pretty weding was solem nized at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Arlow Copeland, Kirkton, ar 1 o’clock noon, Wednesday, April 21st, when their eldest daughter, Marjorie Lorene, was united in marriage with Howard Hodgson, of Ailsa Craig. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a white clipper satin gown with ' nylon yoke, trimmed with seed pearls, and finger tip sleeves. Her % length veil fell from a halo of white satin, roses and orange blossoms. She carried American Beauty roses. She wore two strands of pearls, a gift of the groom. Miss Marian Copeland, sister of the bride, acted as bridesmaid and was costumed in turquoise corded silk, with mat ching net headdress and white mittens and carried a nosegay of pink tinted carnations and daffodils. The groom was atten ded by Mr. Murray Dickson, of Ailsa Craig. The bride’s mother wore a hand-blocked printed silk dress and wore a corsage of snap dra gons and sweet peas. During the signing of the register, Mrs. (Rev.) Goodger sang “Oh Pro mise Me’’. Mrs. (Dr.) Campbell played the bridal music and ac companied the soloist. A recep- j ■lion followed at the 'Central Hotel, .Exeter at 2 p.m. For travel- | ling the bride donned a soft dress - maker's romance blue woollen suit with navy acces sories and corsage of pink and mauve sweet .peas. He was a son of the late Stewart and Nancy McFalls and spent the early part of his life in Biddulph Township, moving to Centralia in 189 6. The deceased was a bachelor and was the last of the family, three brothers and a sis ter predeceased him. several years ago, James and Thomas, of Lucan, Robert, of Uxbridge, and Mrs, James Begg, of Win nipeg, Man. The funeral was held oti Friday afternoon from the Murdy Funeral Home, Lu can, with interment in the St. James Cemetery, Clandeboye. The service was conducted by Rev. Weir, of Centralia.
