MacLean, of Hensall recently re tired chairman of the Canadiau Farm Loan Board and a former premier of British Columbia, died at his home in Ottawa Sun day night, aged 74 years. A native of Culloden, Prince Edward Island, he headed west in his youth and in British Col umbia won a wide reputation as an educationist. He later k be came minister of education in the west coast province and in 1927 became premier, serving from August of that year for exactly one year. He came to Ottawa years ago and served as man of the Farm Loan until his retirement months ago, A physician, he graduated in medicine from McGill in 19 05 and practised for a time in Ari zona and in the interior of Brit ish Columbia. In 1925 he was awarded an honorary L.L.D. by the Uni versity of British Columbia for his work in improving education in that province and for his ef forts in establishing the univer sity at Point Grey. For his work with the farm Ioan board, which he served 18 years, he was awarded the C.B.E, last year.
