Shaddick, Judith and Billie, were week-end visitors in Palmerston with Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Lavelle and family. Miss Jenny Jolly was solist on the air over Stratford radio station on Sunday afternoon, the occasion being the anniversary of Ontario Street Pentecostal Church. The number Miss Jolly sang was “The Lord’s Prayer”. Mrs. Moir spent the week-end with Mrs. J. D. Stewart. Evening Auxiliary Bazaar The Evening Auxiliary Bazaar held in the school-room of the U- nited Church on Saturday after noon, November 2 2nd, was a splen did success. Council Meeting The November 15 th Statutory ■Meeting of the Village Council held Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Council Chambers with all mem bers being present. Minutes of the previous meeting read. W. Brown and W. Parke move that minutes1 be adopted asread. Carried. The?- Treasurer presented the financial statement by reading the same item by item and the same com pared with the previous year’s re port. W. Brown and R. H. Mid dleton, that the Treasurer’s finan cial statement be accepted and that sufficient copies of same be printed. Carried. R. H. Middleton and O. Twitchell that T. Kyle be instructed to col" lect Poll Taxes at once. Carried. A representative of F. Lloyd, Tor onto, appeared re a map of the Province as prepared by them. O. Twitchell and R. H. Middleton, that we purchase a map as pre pared by F. Lloyd of Toronto at $4-85. Carried. Correspondence read as follows:, Dept. Planning and Development, N. E. GREDITON Mr. and Mrs, Elgin Woodall, and family, of Royal Oak Mich., Visited over the week-end at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Woodall. Mr, Wm. Morlock, who has been making his home with his daughter, Mrs, Albert Gaiser and Mr, Gaiser, at Shipka, is at present in Victoria Hospital, London, following an oper ation. Mr. Morlock has disposed of his fine farm near Sharon, to Mr, Arnold Becker. Mr. and Mrs, Merner Eilber, of Detroit, suent the week-end at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Eilber Mr, and Mrs. Leonard Wein, Mrs, Godfrey Wein, Mrs. Wesley Wein and Mrs, W, R. Goulding, of Lon don left on Wednesday for iFlint and Pigeon, Mich. While in Pigeon they will attend the Golden Wed ding of Mrs. G, Wein's brother, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Haist, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Brown, ot Royal Oak, Michigan, spent the week-end at the home of Mr. Chas. Kienzle, Mr, and Mrs. Charles Brown, who have visited with Mr. Kienzle for several weeks, return ed to Detroit with them. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Beaver are visiting with Mr. and Mrs, Eug ene Beaver in Toronto, and are also attending the Royal Winter Fair.'' Mr. and Mrs. Martin Morlock, of Galt, visited over the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. A. Morlock and Mr. and Mrs. H. Young. Mrs. Arnold Robertson and daughter ^Anne, of London, spent a few days last week with Mr. and Mrs. E. Beaver. Mr. Emmerson Wein wears a broad cmile. It’s a brand new daughter, The community sale held on Sa turday was well attended and suc cessfully handled by auctioneer, William Smith. Meeting The Crediton Women’s Institute held their regular meeting in the Council Chambers on Wednesday evening November 19 th with the President Mrs. Hugo Schenk in charge. The roll call was respon ded to by naming a current event. Several items of business relative to Institute work, were attended to and plans completed for the short course which is being held on Thursday and Friday of this week in the Council rooms. Following the business session Mrs. Freeman Morlock took the chair for the following program. Song “Drink to Me Only With Thine Eyes”, fol lowed by a paper on “Royal Ro mances”, prepared and kindly loan ed by Mrs. Clarence Down of Hen sall, the meeting being held on the eve of Princess Elizabeth’s wedding the5 paper was most appropriate. Mrs. (Rev.) Hann favoured the meeting with a vocal solo, “Fat Little Fella with his Mammy’s Eyes” which was exceptionally well received and applauded. Mrs. Hann responded with “Heap O’ Lickins”. Mrs. Wm. Gaiser, 'who had been appointed delegate to the W.I. Con vention in London, gave a very vi vid and splendid report of the se veral sessions she attended at the Convention. This was followed by a song “I Love You Truly”. A con test was enjoyed and a dainty lunch was served by Mrs. William Ratz, Mrs. Freeman Morlock and Mrs. Jos. Woodall. Appreciation to Mrs. Hann, Mrs. Gaiser and the hostesses was expressed by Mrs. Schenk and Mrs. Mack. Exeter5 Lady Dies •Mrs. Caroline Walper, widow of the late Wm. Walper, passed away Friday at her home in her 86th year. Born in Guelph she was .a daughter of the late Sophia and Christopher Willert. In 1885 sh.0 was united in marriage to Wm. Walper who predeceased her in 1916, The .greater part of her life has been spent in Exeter. Surviv ing are three children, John W., of Thedford, (Linda) Mrs. J. Bark ley, of Romeo, Mich., and Theo dore at home; also five grand children, Mrs. Frank Parsons. Hen- all, Hugh Walper, London, Mrs. Wm. Gillimore London Mrs. Ron •Simpson, Essex and Wm, Walper, of Detroit and 13 great grand children, also one sister, Mrs. Dav id Schroeder and a brother Henry Willert, both of Dashwood. The funeral took place from her late residence,» Monday afternoon con ducted by Rev. Higenell, <of Dash wood. Those attending were from Dashwood, Hensall, London, Essex> Detroit, Oxford, Pontiac and Berk-* ley, Mich., and Fillmore, Sask. The bearers were Wm. Stanlake, Wm. Geddes, Wm. Webster, Howard Klumpp, Sid Baker and Gerald Skinner, Interment was in the Exeter cemetery. Presentation Congratulating Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Rivers on their recent marriage a number of the business men of town assembled at the home Mon day evening, made a terrible rack et as they chivaried them with au to horns, old bells and other noise makers and then entered the home and presented them with a lovely! large mirror, The presentation was made by Wm. Middleton who con gratulated the newly-weds and wished them much future happi ness. Mr. Rivers thanked the don ors. Hot beef sandwiches were served and .a jolly time spent. Birthday Celebration A family gathering was held Sun day at the home of Mrs. J. B. Armi tage, of Lucan, in honor of her birthday. The table was attractively set with candlebra and two beauti fully decorated birthday cakes. Pre sent at the gathering were Mr. and Mrs. Nat Ogden, Exeter; Mr. and Mrs. James Ogden and Jean, Lon don; Mrs. Roy Neil, Hazel Park, Mich.; Mr. Jack Ogden, Emmett, Mich; Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Filkins, Howell, Mich./ Mr. Wm. Ogden, Sr. Lucan; Mrs, L. Blake, Lucan; Mrs. Hilton Ogden, Mary, Jean and Bill, Whalen and Mr. Roy Ogden, Fill more, Sask. The latter has been visiting among relatives and friends for the past few weeks, prior to re turning home with his father, Mr. Tom Ogden, who, owing to illness for the past three months has been unable to return to his home in’ Fillmore, Sask. McGillivray Council In McGillvray Township Hall be fore a capacity house composed of teachers, children, parents and many others, the McGillvray schools held their public speaking contest. Under the able chairmanship of Mr. David Henry, a fine evening’s entertainment was provided by an enthusiastic group of pupils. Mr. Gordon Young, Public School Inspector for West Middlesex, pre- I sented prizes and congratulated the boys and girls for the splendid ora tions given. Mr. K. Riddell of the Middlesex Dept, of Agriculture was in the audience and when call ed to the platform, offered his con gratulations to the pupils and the Township school board who spon sored the contest and provided the prizes. Mrs. Gordon McNaughton and Miss Neil of the Parkhill high school staff were judges of the public speaking. Below is a list of the prize win ners.
