St. Marys, who had previously ousted Lucan had won one with Clinton. Intermediate ' tue of their town’s population. A hot hitting Lucan squad handled the locals easily and scored a 15-4 win. The visitors registered 16 hits compared to the Exeter team’s six. six errors to seven. Moore started on the mound with a bang, striking out the first two men and making the third one foul to Howie Holtzman on third. Hod gins allowed one run in the first frame as Smith’s single drove 'Cann —in. Lucan squared that tally when Murdy came home in the second. The game continued scoreless until Moore weakened for one run in the fourth and two in the fifth. Elson relieved in the sixth but the visitors hit him freely and before Dinney retired the side seven runs were scored, Lankin had hit a triple, Kilmer a double and Burns, Murdy, Hearn and Hodgins all had hit one base clouts, in that inning. A sudden death game was played Thursday night between Lucan and Exeter to see who should continue in the series with Clinton, Lucan trimmed the locals 15-4. We hear, however, that Lucan are de faulting, not being allowed a sub stitute catcher and were dissatis fied with the arrangements. Before being shoved up to “B“ ball St. Marys had already won their first game ag; ’ won in be a of hockey the other more than Are You Ruptured?Score by Exeter Lucan The decision to offer a second series of Canada Savings Bonds, forecast some time ago, nas been confirmed by the Hon. Douglas Abbott, Minister of Finance. The new issue goes on sale on October 14th. The Minister of Finance stated that the second series of Canada Savings Bonds will be dated Nov. 1st, 1947, and will bear interest at the rate of 2 % % each year for ten years, They may be redeemed at any time at any bank in Canada for full face value plus interest and will be registered in the owner's name—affording protection against loss. Not more than $1,000 of this series may be registered in any one name. Mr. Abbott pointed out that the new series will enable the continu ance of the Payroll Savings Plan now in operation in thousands of organizations throughout the coun try, and will also permit its instal lation by other companies who rec ognize its value. The new Canada Savings Bonds will also be avail able for purchase by the general public, who may buy them for cash or on instalments. Mr, Abbott said that the recep tion given to Canada Savings Bonds since their introduction last Octo ber had provided the main reason for the new offering. Purchases have been made since that time by more than 1,200,000 Canadians. This total includes 023,840 employ ees who used Payroll Savings Plan facilities provided by their employ ers. Although the decision to offer a second series is based primarily on demonstrated public demand for these facilities, it was explained by Mr. Abbott that the Government also has in mind the value of wide spread holdings of Canada Savings Bonds in the national Economy. Present holdings' have already ren dered more than a million Cana dians better aljle to meet personal emergencies or to carry out per sonal plans. Such personal resources are regarded as an element of! strength and stability in the nation, j Arrangements for the sale of the second series will be made by the I Bank of Canada, and will be similar to those followed for the first ser ies. It is expected that authorized sales agents will include investment dealers, and banks and other sav ings institutions. Enquiry indicates that employers and the executives of labor organizations, who h^ve consistently provided leadership in the development of the Payroll Savings Plan, will join again in en suring that its benefits continue. It is also apparent that the favor able comment and support of all public information facilities will be maintained. It was pointed" out that this support has always been an im portant factor in the general re sponse to Canada Savings Bonds. Every appropriate means of in forming the public of the details of the new series will be used. Mr. Abbott stated that it is confidently expected that Canadians will again recognize this fine investment op portunity and will make plans to take full advantage of it. After the pros and cons were weighed, it hardly looks at this time if such a .team will be entered grouping. * This corner quoted as stating that Exeter should enter Intermediate OHA hockey but we do feel that the meeting could have decided to put forward a greater effort before the issue was closed so quickly. * * * * Unfortunately Exeter like Strat ford or Goderich for instance, doesn’t possess any Pinkeys or Louzons to take a hold of. the situ ation with a few greenbacks and lots of time and energy. Last year the home team got 40 per cent, and you can’t finance Intermediate hockey on that. Arena officials, too. would have to .be more generous with the ice for practicing than they have been in the past if the team was to have a fair chance. * * * * On the other hand the meeting thought it better to go into Inter mediate ORHA this year. That may be a wise stepping stone especially if the team can get a good group ing. It may be that the Cyclone league will be revived and the league as a whole entered into the usual grouping. * * * * •Last year the Cyclone drew good crowds and it is likely it would con tinue to fill the arena but in the minds of many fans are the ibain of doubleheaders lasting until af ter midnight and Hie desire to see Exeter in a better brand of hockey.
