Locals Win in Dashwood; Drop Game Against Airport The local Intermediates won their sixth game of the season Friday night by trimming Dashwood on their own diamond by 11-3. Exeter got off to a good start by scoring two runs in the first inning. (Robinson, second man up, reached first on an error and came in an Farrow's double. Dashwood made it 2-1 in the last half of the second. After loading the -bases Elson walked Kleinstiver to bring in Block. Four runs in each of the fourth and fifth gave Exeter a comfortable 10-1 margin. Two were out in the fourth before Fahrner started the rally with a single. Reavley follow­ ed with another single, -Cann reach­ ed first on an error and Harry Holtzman and Robinson singled to score the four runs. Elson led off with a double in the fifth and scored the seventh run. Smith and Reavley walked and Harry Holtzman singled, all three scoring. Dashwood scored another run in the fifth when Carl Wein came In after Gerry Wein flied out. -Carl doubled and stole third. In the sev­ enth both teams scored single lies, Cann for Exeter and Block Dashwood. Harry Holtzman with three five and Kleinstiver with one two were the leading batters. Centralia 7, Exeter 4 The local Intermediates ran into a bad seventh inning when Jerry Naugler, pinch-hitting for Robertson parked a long triple down the right field line to start a four-run rally and put Centralia in front 7-4. Ex­ eter had been leading 4-3 until Naugler’s blow. They failed to score in the eighth and the game, played at Community Park because of' a wet diamond in Centralia, was call­ ed in the last half of the same in­ ning with one out. Up until the seventh it was a close game with the airmen taking a two-run lead in the second in­ ning when Lenour and McNabb crossed the plate. In the fourth Centralia made it 3-0. Coleman led off with a single and scored on Berner’s grounder to short. In the next two innings iDinney held the Airport hitter; while his teammates got three hits off Berner for three runs. In the Holtzman of the infield and scored on Smith’s single who in turn came in on Reavley’s one-base blow. Fahrner -scored the other run in the sixth. in the first half of the seventh Exeter went ahead scoring again after two were out. Reavley singled, stole second and went to third on a wild pitch and then crossed the plate on Harry Holtzman’s single. The locals allowed the airmen to fill the bases in the last half on three straight errors. They got out of the tight spot when Burns flied to second and Mesier was caught off first. However Naugler’s three- base blow scored McNabb and Phillips, the first two men on base and scored himself on a wild pitch. Rimer came in with the fourth run on Coleman’s double. ■For the winners Coleman had a double and two singles in four times at bat while Howie Holtzman had two for three and Harry Holtz­ man and Reavley, two for four. The South team, managed by Jack Murdy, of Lucan, comprised players from Dashwood, Centralia RCAF, St. Marys, Lucan and Exeter while the North nine, under man­ ager .Stan Tudor, was made up of players from Hensall, Clinton, Staf­ fa, '.Mitchell and Clinton RCAF. While Moore was setting them down one, two, three in the first two innings, striking out four of the six ‘batters to face him the first and three in the second. With two out in the first Farrow singled, took second on a passed ball scored on Rimer’s drive to base. Three straight singles in the frame by Robinson, Moore and started a rally for the South again. All three scored. In the remaining six innings the North pitchers, Hainstock, Joynt and Sadler, toss­ ed effective ball with only nineteen men facing them in their two-inning stretches apiece. The sixth inning was the only frame in which four batters went to the plate. The North AlliStars began find­ ing Moore in the third and Heide­ man took over the mound chore. Exeter’s big race meet is now oyer and a grand success it was- The horsemen themselves stated that the track and accommodation were of the best which speaks well for the untiring efforts of the Turf Club to make the meet a real suc­ cess. It was one the best held this season with Lome Lee pacing one of the fastest, if not the fastest, heat in 'Canada this season. The Turf Club were more than pleased with the fine support received from the Exeter business firms. * * * * Owing to the fact that Dublin failed to play all scheduled games they have been eliminated and the standing is now Dashwood, Exeter, Lucan, Hensall. Joynt, p ............. * * * Since last week’s edition the lo­ cal Intermediates have split their two OBA games, winning over Dashwod 11-3 and dropping the game against Centralia 7-4. At Dashwood Carl Heideman, their number one flinger, tore a muscle in his arm and may be out for the rest of the season. * * * * The batting leadership this week has changed hands. Harry Holtz­ man now is the top hitter with an average of .4 04. Gord Farrow is next with lows with infected finger has kept first-baseman Jack Hennessey side­ lined for the two games played last week. Jack was also to have played in the all-star tilt with the other four Exeter players. Cal. Fahrner has been handling the first base chore in his absence. Monday night Gord (Farrow missed the game through illness. * * * * The South All-Stars got off to a good start at Hensall last Thurs­ day night 'but from the third in­ ning on the North took over to win handily 9-4. Of the four hits chalk­ ed up >by the South the Exeter play­ ers bagged three. Robinson, 'Far­ row and Moore were the hitters, Hall, of St. Marys, singled in the second, for the other hit. Represent­ ing Exeter was Moore, Smith, Far­ row and Robinson, Of the eight pit­ chers Moore had the most strikeout^ with four, two in each of the first and second innings. * * * * •District fans should keep an eye out for the benefit game to be held at Dashwood in the near future. Proceeds will be in aid of Boots Klumpp who, in preparing the dia­ mond for a girls' softball game, got some lime in his eye. Last re­ ports are that Boots is coming along fine. Huron Lumber Co. The Exeter nine suffered some bad breaks in the first innings to let the locals score runs in the first and three in second. From that point it scoreless baseball as ’Dinney Warren held ’both sides to scratch hits. Ainsley started for the win­ ners, allowed three hits and D. Warren finished to make the game a four hit shutout, Exeter’s biggest threat was in the third when Din­ ney and Reavley singled and Elson walked but no one was’ able to spike the plate.
