St. Marys Intermediates shellack ed the Centralia team on their home diamond Friday night 11-1 in a Perth-Huron Baseball League game. St. Marys had revenge for two close games they lost to Centralia in their first two meetings. Two-baggers by R. Noble and Fletcher and singles by Blackman and Swan resulted in two runs for St. Marys in the first inning enough to win the 'ball game after Centralia had opened the scoring in the first inning with their only run of the game on a two-bagger by Burns and a single by Coleman. Bob Graham went all the way for St. Marys and allowed seven hits, issued no free passes and had nine strikeouts. The losing pitcher, Rimer, allowed nine hits, issued no walks and had four strikeouts in the four innings he worked. Bernier, who relieved him and pitched the last four innings, was touched for one hit and had three strikeouts. The leading hitters were Burns for Centralia, with two for four, a double and a single; Flet cher for St. Marys, two for three, a double and a single. There should be no delay in getting the races started this year, either, with the new mobile start ing gate that the Turf Club has secured. * * * * Last word received about Reg. MacDonald, centre player and one of the key men on last year’s cham pion hockey team, is that he has been removed to Westminster Hos pital and is holding his own. Sport fans in this district are hoping for a speedy recovery, * * # * A Cann-Moore pitching combina tion pulled Exeter out of their slump on the home diamond Mon day night. The two of them have been sharing the mound duty in the last few games and against Dash wood the pair gave Exeter their first win in five starts, Cann went the route against Lucan a week ago but the game was called at the end of nine innings, tied up at 5-5. * * * In the hitting department Gord Farrow continued to lead by a very scant margin with a ,390 average Joe Creech is right behind with .389 while next in order comes Jack Elson with .370, Harry Holtzmann with .364 and Robby Robinson with .295. * * * * There seems to he a very good reason why St. Marys is leading the south section of the Huron- Perth League. According to the lo cal boys the team practices prac tically every night they aren’t play ing and Recreational Director F. J. Mills has informed his men that he will accept any player’s uniform if he misses more than two practices in a row.** * * The local Juveniles appeared to be on the way for their first win in Clinton, last Friday night. They were leading by a 2-0 score when rain forced the game in the second inning. This Wednesday night they meet the strong Zurich-Hensall combination in Zurich. * * * * At the Intermediate hardball game last week the Exeter Cyclone hockey champs each received a smart new jacket with matching crests. Not content with the practice he gets with the Intermediates, iSaturday afternoon saw him working out with the Juveniles.
