six-run rally in the fifth, and then
in the seventh and last frame
wound up with four more.
H ignell crossed fclie plate in the
second to send Exeter out in front.
The combines took advantage of
two walks and three singles to

Exeter was held scoreless until the
sixth Zurich scored two more in
the fourth, and in the fifth had their
big six-run rally on five walks and

According to the Exeter Turf
Club a goodly number of entries
has already been filed for the big
race on July 23rd. Monday night
the club held a meeting to make the
final preparations for what they
hope will be one of Exeter’s big
gest race meets. The McDonnell
mobile starting gate is to be used
and from reports of race followers
at the meets this year it does a
wonderful job in getting the races
under way and makes it much more
enjoyable from the audience stand
point as well as the drivers them
selves.

All Square After Nine Innings ...
After exchanging the lead sev
eral times the Exeter-Lucan game
at the Community Park finally
ended in a nine inning 5-5 draw
Monday night.
The two teams had squared
away with a run apiece in the op
ening frame and the Irish jumped
into the lead with two runs in the
third and were in front until the
seventh when Exeter came up with
three runs to lead -5-3. However in
the eigth and ninth Lucan squeezed
across one runner in each frame
to make it 5-5.
Both Cann for Exeter and Hod
gins for Lucan went the route and
did a fine job of it. Hodgins had
seven strike-outs while allowing
nine hits and Cann wiffed six and
was touched for five hits. In the
fourth, fifth and sixth the Lucan
batsmen were set down one, two,
three, while in the seventh only
four men faced the Exeter pitcher.
After the Irish had squared the
score in the first half of the ninth
Exeter started off with the top of
the batting order and Harry Holtz
man. first up, lined out a long
single. It looked as if the rally was
on ibut Jack Elson, pinch-hitting for
Robinson, was struck out by Hod
gins and the two heavy hitters Far
row and Creech grounded out on
slow pitches that were pitch-outs
for an intentional walk.
