At the start of the game it look­ ed as though the local lads were going to hold the highly rated visitors- but the victors had a big six-run rally in the fifth, and then in the seventh and last frame wound up with four more. H ignell crossed fclie plate in the second to send Exeter out in front. The combines took advantage of two walks and three singles to shove three runs across in the third and give them the lead 3-1. While Exeter was held scoreless until the sixth Zurich scored two more in the fourth, and in the fifth had their big six-run rally on five walks and two doubles. In the sixth Exeter had their biggest inning, seven runs coming in, The locals began finding Mickle’s slants and singles by Hig- nell, Southcott and Musser, Tuck- ey’s double and three walks were chalked, up. According to the Exeter Turf Club a goodly number of entries has already been filed for the big race on July 23rd. Monday night the club held a meeting to make the final preparations for what they hope will be one of Exeter’s big­ gest race meets. The McDonnell mobile starting gate is to be used and from reports of race followers at the meets this year it does a wonderful job in getting the races under way and makes it much more enjoyable from the audience stand­ point as well as the drivers them­ selves. •B8 Civic Holiday, will be a big day for the howlers' in Exeter. The local ■club will stage a big doubles tour­ nament that day with a grand ar­ ray of prizes amounting to $400. The local club is also trying to revive the Friday night bowling jitneys, This Friday night a mixed jitney will be staged and all mem­ bers or non-members are asked to hand their names into B. M. After exchanging the lead sev­ eral times the Exeter-Lucan game at the Community Park finally ended in a nine inning 5-5 draw Monday night. The two teams had squared away with a run apiece in the op­ ening frame and the Irish jumped into the lead with two runs in the third and were in front until the seventh when Exeter came up with three runs to lead -5-3. However in the eigth and ninth Lucan squeezed across one runner in each frame to make it 5-5. Both Cann for Exeter and Hod­ gins for Lucan went the route and did a fine job of it. Hodgins had seven strike-outs while allowing nine hits and Cann wiffed six and was touched for five hits. In the fourth, fifth and sixth the Lucan batsmen were set down one, two, three, while in the seventh only four men faced the Exeter pitcher. After the Irish had squared the score in the first half of the ninth Exeter started off with the top of the batting order and Harry Holtz­ man. first up, lined out a long single. The Exetei’ Intermediates to hold a 7-5 lead built up first six innings last Thursday night at the Community Park and the Airport nine scored nine runs in the last three frames to win handily by a 16-7 score.
