Exeter came out on top by a 9-3 count. Nice work in the Exeter nets by Smith and the more finished plays of the locals just about sum up the winner’s margin. Gerry Smith put on another smart display o£ twine tending. While all the locals were flying the work of Doug Fletcher on de fence stood out. Doug was very ef fective in breaking up London at tacks and aided considerably on the attack. A familiar face on the London lineup was that of Wally Eahrner who used to wear Crediton and High School colours. Shaw paced the winners with a four-goal effort. iMacDonald sniped two and single tallies went to Trites, H. Brintneli and Stire, Little got1 two for London while Pincombe scored the other. Probably the neatest goal of the game was that of iStire’s. On a Business Review These business firms invite your patronage. Before the period ended, however, Hensall tied the count at 3-3 and went on to win in the third by a 5-3 mar gin. It meant four points to the Winners. After a scoreless first period Irvine Desjardine put the Bend on top on a play with Finch. Dewey (beat Mickle again 'before Hensall retaliated on goals by Dulklow and Nicholson to tie the score. Desjardine again put the Bend in the lead but it was only a mat ter of seconds when Kozachock put the teams on even terms again. Kennedy scored the winning goal in the third on a beautiful solo effort. Breaking down the ice fast the blonde-headed centre swooped around the defence, went in on top of Dawe and scored. Nicholson scored the other (Hensall tally. Dawe, replacing Tideman in the Grand Bend nets put on a surpris ingly good show. It was. the first time the Grand Bend chap has don ned pads at the Arena this year. In other games he has centred the ■first line. Despite the fact that they are at the bottom of the heap Grand ■Bend have put up stiff opposition in their last two starts at the Arena. Hensall had their hands full to hit the win column. Dashwood and Hensall Win Tilts on Soft Ice, Friday Night T’would have been better had some of the lads donned their swimming trunks for Friday night’s doubleheader. W'ater polo was the game and it was the lucky puck chaser who came off the ice with out dampened pants, on the post erior side -that is. The Zurich-Hensall sides mopped up a great deal of the surplus mois ture in the opening game which ended in Hensail’s favour by a 5-<2 margin. Minus their defence star Stade and with only three spares the Zurich squad were not able to match the Hensall pace. It was 'the Hensall squad’s fourth win. They have suffered but one loss all sea son that being theii’ first game with Exeter. .Outside of the duckings that few on either side escaped action was a scarce item on the opening menu. The soft ice curbed the play making and many goalward drives failed to leave the ice. Kozachock and Nicholson came up with a two-goal effort for the winners with 'Chipchase collecting the other tally. O’Dwyer and Robinson were the 'Zurich marks men. 'Schroeder got a bang in the nose but was ab.le to return to the Zur ich nets sporting an adhesive patch. Dashwood 2, Lucan 1 The Dashwood-Lucan game prov ed a more interesting feature than the first. It was a close match and the better golfers on both sides helped speed up the play. Another game such as Friday night’s and the boys will be in mid-season form by the time they hit the links at the Bend this summer. The old boot-heel took a real beating. * What the game may have lacked in color the Ice made up. By the end of the tilt artistic -patterns in red, white and blue had been blend ed as the red and blue lines ran into the white background. Family names on the Dashwood lineups Were in evidence with three Hayters, two IMussers, a brace of Willerts, one Haugh chasing bunks and another looting the whistle. One of the three Hayters gods by the name of James who plied his wares with the local Juveniles last year and who now is doing alright by himself with .the Goderich Juniors. Although held off the score sheet he kept himself busy with his back-checking efforts. Had the ice been fast, the hard-working ■centre would have showed up to much greater advantage. Dashwood took the lead in the opening stanza when !Bill Musser slapped in Bob Hayter’s rebound. Jack Hardy knotted the count in the middle canto and the score stood until near the end of the third. Dashwood scored earlier in the period but the goal was not allowed aftei’ a great deal of argu ment. However White took ’Schroe der’s pass in front of the net to beat Lucan and give Dashwood the edge. DASHWOOD—Goal, Weido; de fence, Tieman and .H. Hayter; cen tre, J. Hayter; wings, R. Hayter and B. Giris’ Cage Team Still Undefeated Shutouts in basketball are virtu ally non-exstiant and it is seldom that club comes as close to one as did the Exeter High School girls’ cage team at the Arena last Friday afternoon. With only 30 seconds re maining of their Senior “B” Wossa game against Seaforth, Dunlop pot ted a 'field goal to spoil the white wash as the locals took 'an easy 57-i2 win in a four-point game. The win increases Exeter’s undefeated streak to seven straight-not includ ing a defaulted tilt. In the other half of the school twin bill, Exeter boys racked up a 55-26 'decision over Seaforth High School. Hay paced the Exeter girls in their win by hooping 16 points while Kestle and Hunter-Duvar scored 12 and 10 each. . , In the boys’ affair, O’Brien was the leading scorer for the winners with 17 points while J. Rether counted a dozen. iButchart led the Visitors with 16. Boys’ Game SEAFORTH —'Sills (4), Right trail, Henderson (4), Pryce, But ch art (16), Meir, Wilson, Stewart (2), Smith, Boswell. Hensall and Exeter Draw, Lucan Takes the Bend in Exciting Games Lucan may not have got the best of the fighting bouts last Wednesday night but when it came to goals they dumped in seven to Grand Bend’s two in the first game of the double header, In all there were four fights during the three periods of good snappy hockey that alone gave the fans their money’s worth. The win was the first for the Irish in their last five starts. Despite the fact that Grand Bend iced a more formidable lineup than in their first start early in the season they met the Irish when they were in high gear, With Gerry Paul back to centre the first line again they returned to their early season form and gave Tide man in the rival nets a good night’s workout. Youth didn’t have everything their own way for despite the fact that he may have chased pucks in more youthful days John Manore was one of 'the resort centre’s best. On several occasions he led at tacks up the ice on some smart stickhandling efforts. To that he still had the old potted one of the two goals Bend. 'For two periods it was game. Lucan slipped in a each of the first tw0 periods from the sticks of Hearn and N. Hardy. In the third, ‘however, the Irish went to town with five goals. Gerry Paul got two of them, N. Hardy scored his second tally and the others fell to Revington and Mc Roberts. Haist was the other Grand Bend marksman scoring their first goal early in the third. LUCAN — Goal, Lucas; defence, Baynes and Hodgins; centre, Paul; wings, Hearn and Revington; subs, Chisholm, Young, J. Hardy, N. Hardy, Stretton and McRoberts. It was the third time this season that tie efforts have saved the locals from entering the loss column. The second feature was a closer tilt than the first and when rival puckchasers did break away both goalies came up with some brilliant saves. For two periods Exeter’s more finished style gave them a slight edge in the play. Game the third, however, and they went into a relapse which while on slightly was enough to give the hard-press ing visitors the opportunity they wanted. Oddly enough one man on each side got both their team’s goals. Messenger was the Hensall marks man while Trites 'did the twine bending for the Legionnaires. Exeter’s goals came in the first two periods, one in each. Ryckman and Fletcher checked thrust and breaking slipped a pass through the defence that sent Trites flying in to let go a low drive to the far corner. ■In the second Shaw set Trites clear again with a rink-wide pass. Art neatly picked a small opening between Mickle and the goal post. Messenger’s first tally was a drive from near the right boards. Kennedy 'had slipped the disc to at the blueline, a rebound shot saved off Ken- ■MacDonald; wings, Trites and Shaw; subs, Preszcator, Tuckey, Hennessey, iH. Brintneli. ip. Brint neli and Stire. If they win both and Exeter should lose their tilt with Grand Bend the Hensall team would win the new cup being donated by J, A. Traquair, a past president of the Cyclone league. If Exeter wins over the Bend and Hensall wins both its games the teams will be tied for leadership. Exeter still car) play the disputed game with Dash wood which, if they win, will give them an extra point in the standing. The Exeter-Grand Bend tilt Wed nesday night, is an all important one as far as the locals are con cerned. The fourth place position is going to be a close race between Lucan, Dashwood and Zurich. * * * «• LEAGUE BADMAN We haven’t the complete figures to back us up but our number one bet for the league badman title would go to Turkheim -of the Zur ich entry if any evidence. He added three more trips to the sin-bin Friday night in the encounter with Hensall. .STICK BILLS Some of the clubs in the Cyclone League should look into these American hockey sticks they’re talking about. The stick bills will be running into quite a big sum this year.
