It was the locals sixth win while the loss put Lucan in third place. Exeter, however, did not enjoy the "wide edge in play that the score indicates. It was an off night for Lucas- in the Lucan net. Long drives especially seemed to fool him. Despite the fact that Chown or Paul did not appeal* on the Irish line-up they gave the homesters a good struggle. Fred Revington and Trites chalk ed up the most goals, each doing the hat trick. The only other puck chaser to garner more than one tally was MacDonald who picked up two. Joe's last goal was about as smart a tally as scored all eve ning. He carried the disc in on top of Lucas, drew him out and flipped it into the empty cage. Exeter’s second line showed great improvement over previous games and accounted for three goals. Ross Tuckey also sparked the team with his aggressive play, Exeter jumped into a three-goal lead in the first 'before the Irish got clicking. Trites got the first two goals in the space of a minute about the half-way mark. Har Brintnell scored -the third before Fred Revingtoh scored on a smart piece of stick-handling. Early in the second, the Irish made it 3-2 but from there on it was fairly much Exeter on the score sheet. EXETER—Goal, Philp; Ryckman and Fletcher; MacDonald; wings, Shaw Trites; subs, H. Drop First Tilts Clinton Midgets and Juveniles came to town Tuesday night for the first game of a home-and-home, goals-to-count round in the Minor Hockey semi-finals. Both visiting teams came out on top and will enjoy small leads for the return games in Clinton. Midgets Down One Goal Although the/Midgets have two out of three games in schedule with Clinton they down in the first .playoff tilt by a 6-5 score. Loose defence work was probably their biggest trouble as on several occasions the 'Clinton lads 'broke away with Exeter ers trailing- them to skate in on Mickle and score. Twice Exeter knotted the •but -both time Clinton jumped into the lead. Clinton took a 3-1 edge in the opening period. There was no scoring in the second. In the final 'frame Exeter tied the score at 4-4 and 5-5 on two attempts to overtake the visitors. Biggest attraction of the game was the playing of Murray Brint nell. Closely built to the ground the young local winger gives the fans a great kick every time he grabs the puck. And last night they had plenty of chance to yell. He scored one goal and assisted on two more. On Wein’s tally that knotted the count at 4-4, Murray broke away and worked the puck through to the Clinton zone on a nice piece of stick-handling to feed Wein the pass. The win now puts Hensall in second place. Neither team scored until the thirteen minute mark when Hen sall started on the rampage with goais off the sticks Of Little, Nich olson and Kozachock before the period ended. In the second Hen sail registered tw0 goals, Kozachock getting his second tally and Mes senger the other to make it 5-0. The third semester was a high scor ing affair in which Hensall bagged six and Dashwood scored all three goals. Kozachock was the high scorer of the night with four goals. The locals enjoyed an early lead and then came from behind to tie the score in the first period on goals by Tuckey and Musser but after that Clinton went on a four- goal spree that was too big a lead for Exeter to overtake. The locals garnered three goals in the last part of the game while holding Clinton to but one. Haugh and Kirk ■ Were the marksmen while ’Musser Exeter Students Defeat Mitchell Exeter High (School boys kept their winning streak intact Friday afternoon when they handed Mit chell H.S. a 37-29 defeat ip. a WOSSA Senior “B” basketball game here. Mitchell girls, also slated to play IFiriday, defaulted their tilt to Exeter when they decided against making the trip. Exeter had the upper hand all the way in the boys’ game, and although Mitchell kept within three points of them in the first half, the locals showed more class in their passing plays. 1 4 McNaught, Mitchell guard, came through with a freak basket, seen for the first time in the Exeter floor, when he attempted t0 make a pass from his own zone to Deigal, who was at the opposite end of the floor. The pass was a looping one and went through the Exeter hoop without touching the rim. Davis paced the Exeter scorers with nine points but he was given plenty of competition from Ilige- nell, who potted seven. Smith copped top scoring honors for both clubs with 16 points, but his efforts were not enough to pull a win out of the bag.
