Nominated for the posi­ tion were Clark Fisher, Wm. Eller- ington and Gilbert Duncan, Elected to the council by acclamation are Wellington Brock, Wm. Ellerington, ■Oscar Tuckey, and James Simpson, the latter being a newcomer re­ placing Gilbert Duncan. Mr. Duncan and Mil ton McCurdy were placed in nomination but failed to qualify. iFor the newly-formed Township Area School Board eight names were placed in nomination, one be­ ing nominated from each school section. Seven have qualified for the position, five to be elected, They are Clarence Down, Harold Hern, Ward Hern, Victoi’ Jeffery, Ross Marshall, Milne Pullen Harold Taylor. Ed. 'Tuckey has been returned to office by acclamation. This will be the eighth year in which he has occupied the chief magistrate’s chair. For two years previous to that he sat on the coun­ cil. In 1943 he was warden of the County of Huron. Also elected by acclamation was H. 0. Rivers to the Public Utilities Commission. Eight For Council There will be a lively contest for the Council with eight aspir­ ants, four to ibe elected. The names and the order in which they will appear on the ballot are: William C, Allison, Reginald L. Beavers, John Caldwell, William G. Coch­ rane, Robert C. Dinney, J. Welling­ ton Hern, Aaron J. Sweitzer, Rol­ and B. Williams. On a 2nd ballot ratepayers will be asked to express their wish on a garbage collection for the village and an annual grant to the town band. It was an auspicious occasion, how­ ever, as on that day Mrs. Lawson and then* son, Gerald were both celebrating birthdays. It was with a tinge of sadness that he was ■leaving the Bell Company where he had made some very warm con­ tacts. He spoke kindly’ of the way the people of Exetei’ had appreci­ ated his efforts and there was some gratification to think that in some degree he had tried to meas­ ure up to his obligations. Golden Jubilee of Dashwood Couple Mr. and Mrs. John Kuntz, of Dashwbod, observed their 50th wedding anniversary oil Decembei’ >23. They were married in Zurich in 1896 and farmed in Hay Town­ ship until 17 years ago 'when they retired in (Dashwood. Mrs. Kuntz was formerly Miss Susan Sipple. The family includes three daugh­ ters and one son: Miss Luella Kuntz, at home; Mrs. Clayton Pfile, Dashwood; Mrs. Arthur'* Koessel, Lansing, Mich., who Celebrated her wedding anniversary the same day, and Arnold Kuntz, on the farm homestead, which has been owned by the Kuntz family for three gen-- eyatlons. Allison, of the Thames Road, is a patient in Victoria Hos­ pital, London, having had the mis­ fortune to fall at his home fractur­ ing his hip. On Monday, Dec. 23rd lie underwent an operation and is .progressing favorably. Mr. Tuckey said that criticism had been levelled at him on the lack of industry in the town but he explained that he had done every­ thing id his ipower to bring factor­ ies to the town. Firms were not in­ terested because there were no empty buildings in Exeter with a well-lighted (floor space of five thousand square feet. iHe said in one inquiry the Canadian Canners had helped in trying to secure a building. As for the future the next year would be the most difficult year for him in trying to steer the ■council.
