Whalen Bride Showered A pleasant evening was held re­ cently at Mrs. Edgar Squire’s home when the Whalen community met to honor Miss 'Shirley Squire, bride-elect of this week. She was presented with a white and black enamel kitchen shower. Miss Mary Johnson played the Bridal Chorus and Audrey Arksey led Shirley tq a prettily decorated chair. Mrs. Walter Gunning presided over a program consisting of community singing with Mrs. Bert Duffield as accompanist, readings "The Bald headed end of the Broom’ by Mrs. H. Ogden; "Beauty Treatment” .by Mrs. E. Foster; "My Wife” by - Mrs. Harry Klahre; "Happy Mar­ riage” by Mrs. Will Hodgson; "That thing called a Husband” by Mrs. Will Morley; "New Husband like Puppy” by Mrs. George Squire were given. Mrs. Milne Pullen sang a solo "Next Wednesday Morning”. A mock wedding * brought forth many bursts of laughter, Messrs Leverne Morley, as the minister. DASHWOOD Mr. and Mrs. Jack Raschke and family and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Bask pf Petrpit, spent the week-end with relatives here. • Mr, and Mrs. Ward Kraft, of London, spent the week-end with his mother and Mr, and Mrs. Koeh­ ler. Mr. and Mrs. S. P. Currie and Mr. and Mrs. K, McCrae spent the week-end in Meaford. Mr and Mrs. K. Streets, of Clin­ ton, spent Bunday with Mr. and Mrs, p, Tiernan. Col. E, Tieman, of London, Cpl. George Wolfe, of Camp Borden, Lome Kleinstiver, of Bowmanville, Robt. Hopcroft, of Port Colborne*, and Sigrid Gunn, of London, were among those who attended the banquet given for the returned veterans in the hotel on Friday evening. Mrs. Russell Broderick, of Hen­ sail, visited with Mr, and Mrs. Har­ old 'Simpson on Sunday. Rev. and Mrs. Luft and family left on Tuesday morning fox' their new home in Hanover where Rev. Luft accepted a call to First St. Mathews Lutheran congregation. On Sunday morning he preached his farewell sermon to audience, it being years ago on Bunday that he preach­ ed his first sermon in this church, Rev. and Mrs. Luft will be greatly missed in Dashwood, Mother’s Day was observed in the Evangelical Sunday School when Mrs. Witzel was presented with a bouquet of carnations, she being the oldest mother present and Mrs. Alvin Willert, the youngest mother, Mrs. Flossy Smith and friend, of Toronto, spent the week-end with her mother, Mrs. Kleinstiver. Celebrate 25th "Wedding Anniv’y A very pleasant evening was spent at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Oluf Pedersen, of Dashwood, on Saturday evening in honor of their silver wedding anniversary. Supper was served to some thirty guests present. The evening was spent in singing anq social chat. Mr, and Mrs. Pedersen were married in Minneapolis, Minn,, in 1921 on the 11th of May by a Danish minister. They, were presented with many beautiful and useful gifts which were displayed. A coincidence oc­ curred when Mrs. Pedersen received a letter from her aunt in Denmark the same day. Guests were present from Ailsa Craig, Ilderton, Sea­ forth, Wingham, Watford and Strathroy, the guests all being of Danish descent. We extend congrat­ ulations to Mr. and Mrs. Pedersen, Pastor Honored by , Congregation The Sunday School auditorium of Zion Lutheran Church was filled to capacity when members 'of the con­ gregation gathered to bid their pas­ tor farewell before leaving for his new pastorate at Hanover. During a piano prelude Re}\ Luft, Mrs. Luft and family were ushered to reserve seats at the front, after which a series of events passed that made a pTeasant evening. Favorable addresses were given by four guest pastors who' highly praised thirteen years of his ministry here. Commun­ ity singing- was enjoyed, followed by a reading, a piano duet and two short dialogues by the Walther League and Ladies’ Aid. The high­ light of the evening was the pre­ sentation to Rev. Luft and family by the various church organizations. The chairman of the church board, V. L. Becker, read the following address, during which Rev. Luft was presented with a sum of money. KIRKTON Mr. Stewart Crew is holidaying with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thos, Crew. Miss Ruth Middleton, teacher at Kirkton attended Teacher’s Conven­ tion at St. Marys Thursday and also attended May day which was held at Stratford. Normal School. She had the honor of being Queen last year and presenting the pin to the Queen this year. She topfc her 7 and. 8 grade girls as her guests. Miss Norma Tufts, of London, spent the week-end with her par- ents, Mr. and Mrs. Truman Tufts. W. S. Cluff, of Guelph, spent Friday with his parents, Mr, and Mrs, John Cluff. Mr. Ralph McNaughton, of Lorn don, spent the week-end with his parents, Mr, Naughton. The village have a little Pym this week while he was in the village. Mr. Pym home with his son, at Wingham. Squire entertained at a trousseau tea on Friday after­ noon and evening in honor of her daughter, Shirley, whose marriage took place to John R, Dickins on Wednesday at Whalen United church. The guests were received by Mrs, Squire and Shirley. The dining room was prettily decorated with spring flowers and pink and white streamers. Rev. Luft made a very suitable reply, expressing his heart-felt thanks on bellalf of himself arid family. The program closed with the entire as­ sembly singing, "God be with you till we meet again,” Refreshments were then served by members of the Ladies* Aid.
